Hey, got a new 5spd vl but there seems to be a problem.. The wheels dont turn! Ive opened up the diff cover to see whats going on in there and it seems like its working fine. I know S#$t all about diffs so i just sat there and watched it. When i tried to turn the tyres by hand when the car was on a jack they turned but not easiely, then i thought it might be the brakes so i untightened the handbrake cable and now i can turn them, and when the cars on a jack and running they turn on there own. But when i take it off the jack it wont go anywhere, just revs and the speedo thinks the cars moving.. Anyone had this problem? or might know what it is?

it may also be dumb, but the tail shaft is in, right? Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

inside of the diff seems to have be working fine, like everything is spinning except the wheels. The wheels are 15"s and its drums not discs. I tried taking the drum cover off but even though i gave it alot of force from every end it just didnt come off..is that normal?

diff is binding i reckon, if its off the ground the the wheels will be able to turn through the spider gears, but once its on the ground it cant, thats what i gather from your info mate. -jimmy

If the speedo moves, then the diff is broken. Must be making a rude noise.

how would i know if the diffs lsd...?

either read the id tag, or when you open it up you'll see two sprung cones on either side which 'chew' into their carriers to produce the lsd effect. -jimmy

there are also two rows of bolts on a LSD around the inside of the ring gear (kinda hard to explain) whereas a open diff only has one row of bolts.

That makes it an ordinary non-turbo, non-LSD diff. Nothing special there.
