Heavy lump cam + turbo = loss of boost, waste of money and less power than you would of had with stocko cam.
Please read about how cams work before you fit one, just a suggestion, not a flame.

Unless your aiming for a drag car quicker than say a 11 second pass, I say cams are a waste of time.
Use the standard cam it can cope, Some guys have broken a high 10 with standard cam so really they ain't necessary.
Each to there own opinion though.

Damn straight. I do one that sounds tough on idle, comes on boost earlier, makes more power for any given boost level, and is easier to drive. Works with the standard ecu as well.

You dont need a big lumpy cam, but a stage 1 of some sort e.g, JPC or NIZPRO will achieve very good results and be VERY streeetable too.
As for a standard VLT cam runnung 10's, I dont think so some how?
The standard cam is useless after 4,500rpm.
The best time i ran with the standard cam was 12.1 @ 111mph, changed to JPC stage 1 cam, which is a BABY, and 11.4 @ 119mph.The car drove the same as a stocky just about.
Up to you, as to what you want from the car tho!!

Just a quickie, why does everyone go to 'Performance' shops to get cams? You could get a better cam for less money if you go to the cam grinder. Doesn't anyone get this? The cam grinder knows more about it than the middle man and you don't have to pay the middle man.
Something to keep in mind.

I always wondered that myself.
I think it's just so they can say "stage One" or "It's a Woggo perfomance shop X custom cam."
Having read all these stories about people being shafted by pretty much every 'performance' workshop under the sun, I don't understand why people are so quick to fork over the dollars they demand.

I recently found that out.I just bought a wade 818B cam, i got a price from a well known melbourne workshop, and was quoted $350 including machined lifter bodies to suit. I rang Wade themselves, $173.00 including machined lifter bodies.
Go direct, a lot cheaper for the same product.

23-04-04, 09:53 GMT+10#13 well i know i do want a cam, the engine i am rebuilding already had a mild regrind cam and u would feel this come in a make more power around 3500 rpm.
What i do have in mind is to regrind a different stock cam and my mechanic is going to work out the specs for me.
South2 i will look into that tho Red RB30 Jet for the price of doing a cam, every little bit helps and to me its worth doing having had one already
LukeVL i was kinda picturing that a nice idle
thanks to every1 for their comments will take it on board

24-04-04, 01:16 GMT+10#18 u mean the stock cam "opens up" with more boost
what exactly do u mean
no matter how much air u push in , the tappets arent going to lift any different off the cam , so the valves arent going to change their movements , the only thing u will do is waste the potential for that air to be used successfully

24-04-04, 02:45 GMT+10#19 yeah wat the ?
how does a cam open up with more boost.. thats like saying the cylinder head flows more with more boost... yes it flows more... because more air is being forced through.. but it'll reach its flow limit at some stage.. and this is when some porting etc etc will aid in increasing its flow properties

cheers mate
