To give you some idea of the costs involved I have approximately listed some of the major parts required to produce the sort of horsepower you are looking at with VERY approximate prices: Forged pistons $1500. Billet rods $1800. Turbo $2500. Turbo Manifold $1500. Engine management $2500. Installation and tuning for management $2500. Internal engine preparation and parts $3000. Intercooler and piping $2500. Fuel system $1000. DOHC cyl head $1000. Labour $3-4000. talk to anyone whos done it to build a car that can support over 300kW to do it properly would probably mean a budget more in the region of $25-30,000. The other option is to look at using a RB25-DET and using mostly bolt on parts. RB25-DET engine package $3000. Exhaust $1500. Induction $600. Intercooler and piping $2500. Turbo $2500. Engine management $2500. Installation and tuning for management $2500. Fuel system $1000. Forged pistons $1500. Metal headgasket $750. Labour $2-3000 which option? should i go for

installation and tuning for management shouldn't be more than $500-$600

yeah and you don't need billet rods to get 300rwkw on an RB30, or a DOHC head for that matter.

yeah those prices are a bit wack dude i know u said approximate.. but yeah.. here is my own estimation on the same kinda deal.. some prices taken from Gilmour Developments. Bottom End: Forged pistons -$1200 Moly ring set - $200 Shot peen rods - $90 Bearings -$150 Rod bolts -$200 Machining and assembly -$1000+ Extras like oil pump mods/balancing/polishing/nitriding/linishing etc ADD $$$ Head (SOHC): Headwork, porting etc etc -$600 Cam/Adjustable cam gear/Machining of lifter blocks/Springs and billet retainers -$700 Turbo/Exhaust: Decent sized turbo (too many to list approx -$2000 High mount exhaust manifold -$500 Dump pipe, screamer from wastegate/3" exhaust -$1000 External gate -$700 Water and oil lines -$250 Boost controller -$100 -$800 Intake: Bolt on foward facing plenum -$700 -$1500 would come with throttle body. Custom intake to turbo with air filter -$400 Steel intercooler piping (HPC coated) -$600 Intercooler -$800 Fuel System: Injectors (bosch 363's) -$1000 +/- Modified fuel rail -$50 Fuel pressure reg -$270 Fuel pump or twin pumps -$400 Lift pump $300 Surge tank $120 Hoses/Fittings/Clamps/Mounts $200 Engine Management: Microtech/Wolf/EMS/MoTec/Autronic/Haltech/Link -$1400 to $3000 Installation and tuning -$400 -$1000 Then u have things like gearbox (auto or manual) which can vary in price depending wat u get.. manual or auto.. the level of strength/streetability etc -$1500 -$4000. Diff would be another important component.. Spooled or LSD vl turbo diff, or you could spend more money and opt for the 9" for a wider range of gear selections, bigger axles and more strength/reliability. and with all that power making gear taken care of.. Brakes also should be upgraded to something a little more sophisticated :P you can spend anywhere from $500-$3500+ if you can afford to. Suspension ? ? The list goes on and on and on.. This is just a rough guide also, i just based my prices on some reciepts i've got and also just known common knowledge.. also some mates rates in there too i think.. Someone with more time can add up the total of that bill for interests sake.. Ollie Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

I'm not sure who you two are bagging, but exchaser's prices are very realistic and comprehensive. Well done Ollie. Noticed a few familiar prices in there also... Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

ollie seems right to me. 18k up there inc autronic and good tuning. add to that a fully rebuilt jatco (transman) 3.5k.or a glide or trimatic. another 2k if ya have the money on breaks and whiteline in australia do a full race spec type of suspension deal in melb for 2k. 1.5k diff. works out to be around 28000 - 29,000 with suspension, brakes diff tranny and all the good stuff cant see why a low 10 high nine cant be run with the above setup. my 2c.

Yeah, your right Greg, But when it comes out with big totals like that, it's wonder anyone would do it. Personally if I had my time over again, I would of bought an R33 GTR, Would of been better off financialy. LOL

but then you'll have a stock gtr and your mate will have a "off its tits" vlt, guys dont forget at that stage you'll need a roll cage, race suit, helmet, slicks, etc etc, racing is not cheap. your probably looking at another 5k plus if you are gonna race at an andra sanctioned track!

What would a 300rwkw VL do with good traction? The GT-R can't be compared to the VLT, for the money I would rather a stock R33 GTR than a fast VL anyday IMHO. Last time I checked a 300rwkw GTR isn't an expensive or adventurous exercise compared to a VLT.

Those prices was what I got quoted in person from an unnamed company in Adelaide. Though I'm in melbourne, so I was looking for some more info and to see what you guys think. I only want to spend 10-15K on a vlt upgrade to support 300kw ta

Buy stronger internals for longevity, while the stronger parts may not really be essential to making big power, they will ensure that yoru motor lasts more than a couple of months. I think everyone will agree that forged pistons are a good idea for a start? I also think that Power porting, while seeming expensive at the time is excellent value for money. The gains speak for themselves, ask a few people on this forum who have had it done and they will tell you. get your cylinder head, exhaust manifold, turbo compressor housing, and inlet manifold all power ported and this will yield excellent gains. Just costs alot to get it all done at once. As the age old saying goes "Speed costs money, how fast do you want to go"

getting 300kw from a GTR would not be a very challenging task, but buying one of the buggers would be a little more difficult for some of us like exchasers list (good list too!) the 30k on the GTR might go more like ... R32 GTR - $29,990 fuel - $10

IM talking about getting 300rwKW from a VLT. keep to the subject bro The company i got quoted for was 15-20, but they stressed it could go as high as 25-30K to sustain a reliable build, RB30DET bottom with RB25 top, extractors, fuelling system, suspension, everything except for tyres/rims which are a seperate cost. they are official motec dealers so they suggested the ecu for approx. 1500 for top of the line. They are letting me pay for this in stages so i dont have to fork out the total price all in one go. Respray with 2pac paint by a professional will cost about 1500? Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

nah i'd say exchasers list is really quite accurate, yeh sure you could get 300kw out of a rb30 like it's nothing, but you gotta modify the rest of the car to suit, the thought of 300kw in an otherwise stock vlt/vlct makes me run away scared and anyway, you don't need 300kw to go quick, it's how your car is setup... i'd bet HSVSUX would pay more attention to car setup than power output, same with a fair few clued in drag boys, while you need power to be quick, you gotta put it to the rear wheels and down to the ground in the best possible fashion, this equal quick times.

Well said JUSTA6. 300RWKW is useless without the rest of the car setup right, this is where all the extra costs come into play, without the right setup you cant use the car safely.

300rwkw setup for drag racing should go low, mid 10's. Even 270rwkw will get you in the 10s in an exec setup right. Not setup right and you are just wasting power to the ground you spent all this money for. As everyone says, it all adds up. Especially if you want it to last more than a couple of runs. + and - a couple of $$$ for certain parts the prices seem about right to me.
