My car makes really weird noises from the drivers side rear wheel. Sometimes its really loud, other times its quiet. Its sorta like a scrubbing noise and it gets faster as u drive faster. The wheels do not rub against the guards at all. Any suggestions? I am thinking bearings.

Sounds like the handbrake cable is rubbing on the inner edge of the wheel/tyre to me. Have a look at this, this will get louder as the wheel spins faster, naturally... Mick

The trick is if it is your right hand side bearing when you turn a left hand corner the noise will stop as all the weight goes onto it which makes it stop. A rear bearing will still last a while even when it's on it's way out but you should get it down soon.

Its weird, its only noticeable goin 50 km/h or over, its *** annoying and loud on the freeway though. How much do these cost to replace

About $25-$30 a wheel if done by a mechanic. They'll also be able to check the general condition of your suspension and brakes to make sure that it wont come back if the problem isn't the bearing. If it's a wirring noise, then it it could be the diff, as tracking down a noise in the car is hard and can be missleading when you listen to try and find the source. It actually sounds like a diff sound as its getting louder, as you go faster.

does it go away when you apply the brakes??? I had something similar to this with my last VL... I had a shortened diff.. and when I put my stockies on the back, I needed spacers to step the wheels out.. and yeah, had the scrubbing noise you heard.. turned out to be a wonky spacer plate!

grrr .. nah it makes the noise all the time, whether i turn left/right, accelerate/brake .. its more noticeable going faster. If it was wheel bearings would it still do this?

Is the tyre / Rim really hot after driving?? If it is it will be your wheel bearings, As I have had this happen before on another car.
