ok, next year I will be using my car for hill climbs and some super sprints. I currently have king lows, monroe shocks and stock everything thing else. I was thinking of getting the whiteline 'works' kit and replace all the old bushes, but I don't wan't to have to go and do it all again if its not up for some light track work. Would I be better to get some koni yellows, make some coil-overs for the front, keep standard style rear setup (with better springs of course), whitleline adjustable front bar and adj radius rods strut tops ect.? I don't want to spend huge money about $2k. thanks

i beleive you can buy the parts through koni to convert to coilover (front and rear). HSVSUX??? The works kit is avaliable with konis as an option, call them for a price (and let me know)

I gave them a call and konis are $300 each for the front and $195 each for the back thats just shocks no springs. hmmm

can be done easy as with king and koni gear Im converting a mates VP race car to adjustable height race coil set up all round at the moment. he has Koni yellows at the mo, getting the fronts revalved and 650lb fr. and 325lb rear race coils, threaded tubes all round with platform nuts etc, alloy strut tops etc, costing $1600 including my labour. for street / club use I recomment 450-500lb front springs and 250 - 275lb rear, the std yellow Konis will be fine on the rear but the front will need a bump and rebound revalve to work properly with that rate of spring. also run the biggest front bar you can get (or get a moly one made) urethane bushes all round, camber plates and shorter Z bars are a must.

Yeah I will look into to making some front coil overs for sure, but I am undecided on wheather it will be worth converting the rear. What sort of price am I looking at to have the konis re-valved? Would I be better scouting around for a second hand set and getting them rebuilt? Do you make your own strut tops or so you use the full race alloy k-mac ones? thanks

My top mounts are off the shelf from the local Koni workshop here, but I have thrown away the tower plates and I have modified the strut towers to become the adjustment part of the mounts. as per pic in the website link below. revalving is around 250 per insert for race spec.

Ok could you send that diagram to [email removed] I will scout around for some other prices, I am a mechanic by trade so I will find someone I know to get some konis at trade prices. Thanks your help. btw your car is the best vl I have ever seen. Very nice work.

Hey, I've converted to race coilovers all round although u probably don't want to do what i've done to the rear! The fronts were easy as, i found a pair of front struts to suit a RX7 with adjustable spring platforms at a jap wreckers. The threaded tubes are exactly the same size as the vl tubes so i simply cut and welded the tubes on at the right length to suit short koni yellows! And made some new spring tops. Done! Check out my web page (below), although i'm having problems with it at the moment...

How much did your caliper mounting brackets cost you to make? I will have to race you sometime when I learn how to drive. :P I should have all the stuff to convert to front coil overs pretty soon, I got it through suspension wholesale in slacks creek. Then I will attack the rear when the bank builds back up. Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

Thanks! I'll take pics of the strut tops as soon as i finish them! will let u know. I'm converting my pulsar ET fronts to adjustable height too because the front springs are way too soft (lifts the inside back wheel off the ground...). And i'll try the 300lbs/in springs out of the vl front in the pulsar and get some 400lbs/in springs for the vl. It's great being able to swap 5hit around! The mounting brackets didn't cost me anything. There's heaps of steel lying around here, aswell as a gas axe to cut them out, grinders, drill press ect. So was just abit of time measuring it up. Where in NSW are you?? I'm itching for some VL opersition!!! Cheers.

Darren: you are using 300lb fronts at the moment? go straight to 450lb springs or 650lb and get the Konis revalved. then get into races! Just looked at the pic, are they progressive? I got some pics here of a conversion but nowhere to host em.

Brent, Yeah, i got the 300's for the rear originally, but they were definatly too hard, so i got 200's and just put the 300's in the front to try them. A mate thats driven my car and is experienced is telling me they are too hard but i don't think so. He's a fan of a soft setup. I've actually got his 170's in the rear at the moment so he could try my 200's in the front of his corolla! All linear rate springs. I don't think street rubber is up for 650! I feel 400 is what it needs at the moment, and if i want to go harder, i can, thats the beuty of adjustable height! Send the pics to me, i can host them! I've sorted out the probs i was having with my site. Sorry for the thread hijack...

300 is close to std My bro's VLT runs RE540 Bridgestone DOT race tyres (235/45/17), 425 lb fronts and 275lb rear and its too soft for sprinting...and sweet as for street driving 300's would be ok for std commo rear, but your wheel rate is closer to your spring rate now with the irs conversion. Go R rated tyres, they are the biggest time saver when on the track..... Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

Brent, the standard fronts i had were aprox 170lbs/in, the 300's made a huge difference! I'll just step up slowly until i feel it's right for the setup. I've got Dunlops foumula SS001 tyres on the front. They were well priced and are far better than the Continetal contisport tyres i had. Are the bridgestones road tyres or race only??? $$$??? I've updated my web site too! Check it out here! (http://www.users.bigpond.com/allanreynolds/twinvl/index.html) Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

The RE540's are road legal, but are made for the track, the VP im converting at the moment uses them for street and sprinting. in the front he had 400 lb custom made std diameter coils in the front with std Koni sport inserts, it was way too soft, thats why im doing the job now. Re540's in 235/45/17 are around 450 ea. they last around 3 times longer than full slicks on most club cars

The tyres sound good, abit pricy but thats racing! I'll have to give them a go next time i'm due for tyres. By then i'll probably want harder springs anyway. Don't the V8 supercars run on 300lb springs??? U can see they are soft! BTW, just realised they are progressive rate springs in the pic on my site. I borrowed a pair when i did the conversion, but didn't use them for long.

most teams are using 550lb progressive for dry down to around 350 for wet but thats because the tyre is controlled and has a huge profile my tyres have half the wall height as a V8 SC tyre and im using a die spring for bumps and a 1000lb main, if I was using a single spring, it would be around 750
