i was talking to someone i know today and he was saying the best thing to do gearbox wise for a vlt is to go out and get either a turbo 400 or 700 gearbox, he said the mounts are relatively cheap to make and should cost around 900 fitted and engineered, just wanted to see if he was talking out his ass? anyone know of vl's running these?

I've heard of VL's running turbo 350's or trimatics. Not sure which one.

trimatic for a V8 is factory, I'd personally go a TH350, they are very strong and don't "consume" as much power as the TH400. Dont' forget that both the TH350 and TH400 are only 3 speed boxes.

a t700 would basically be a t400 with an overdrive.?

I think I remember reading in the SC artile that DEFCTV was running a T700

Stick with a Jatco. Get Transman to build you one.
Those Turbo 700's can't really last behind a dunger V6 heaps of people I know with a 700 behind a V6 had to get them rebuilt and they were'nt driven hard either. So unless it's modified to Corvette V8 specs, I would'nt bother besides they are too heavy.
And it's no simple bolt in job with just mounts, alot of parts need to be changed and will probably cost you a bit of money to get it all in.

Spot on!.
There are a fair few places fitting trimatics behind RB30's, normally for big power or drag racing, C4's also, dont hear very much about the T350 , t400 & t700 though.

just to add..
Fitting the t700 requires a fair bit of bashing to the tunnel.
Even then the auto cant be removed without taking he engine out.

yeah might just go for a heavily modified jatco

23-04-04, 18:30 GMT+10#10 ive got a TH700 in mine.. (injected V8 though).. and as far as the tunnel goes - it needed a bit of moulding.. nothing major though..
also a turbo400's heaps stronger than the 700..
and yeah, theirs still a fair few places that rebuild the 700's & can get em pretty tough!
I had the choice of a TH400 or 700.. and only went for the 700 cos of the 4th gear (i drive it every day and a bit of highway so yeah..
but don't think id go to the trouble of getting one behind an RB...

08-05-04, 01:30 GMT+10#11 A TH700 will not fit behind an rb30 motor. The bellhousing cant be modified like a trimatic as it is part of the case. A trimatic will be able to fit behind there as the bellhousing can be modified to suit.
And Jaws, I dont know where you got that information from..
