gday concidering putting the tacho dash with oil pres and battery voltage in my stock auto VL. not really too sure why. guess id just rather a tacho than a clock, and it would only cost $40-50 to get one so why not ay? question is, will i find all the cables ill need for the extra features like tacho, oil pressure and voltage tucked away behind the current dash, or would i have to do all the wiring for that myself? if i have to do it myself, how much of a prick is it to do? i was always told getting the dash off was a real prick, but ive got a manual so it couldnt be too hard could it? cheers

Just look for a 2nd hand tacho dash, I upgraded mine, $80 for the new dash and u also get a nice electric clock fuel pressue gauge (u will need to get a varible oil sender though for it to work properly) and amp meter guage. Its not hard to get it out its simple as: Take off the dash cover (like 6 screws or something) and unplug wiring harness clips Unbolt old instrument cluster and remove (like 4 bolts) Plug wiring into new cluster and sit it in Bolt up new cluster Put dash cover back on... ...and walah turn it on and hellooooo mr tacho! Works straight off the bat and takes about 10 mins to do. IMO much easier than hacking apart the current dash and possibly destroying it and wiring up stuff to the aftermarket tacho, which I would have done however if it hadn't been this easy to get a tacho!

cheers for that, but the main thing i want to know is are the cable/s for the tacho, and other fatures, which i do not currently have, going to already be sitting behind the dash waiting for me, or am i going to have to connect up a few cables up to the engine, run them through the firewall, and then get them connected to the new dash? my current dash has no tacho, fuel pressure (i thought it was oil, not fuel??), or battery voltage, so i dont see why they would have connected all the cables required and left them hanging behind the dash. finally, how much for this variable oil sender? i was thinking i may even modify the dash and **** off the voltage gauge and connect up my vacuum gauge to it instead cheers

hay bro its easy as 1. unscrew your wiper and dimister switches nad unplug them. 2. below pop out ur little black plastics were your cruse will b if calais urs will b blank and the other 1 were they normally put ur alarm light. unscrew the 2 screws. 3. pull top of dash out use a flat head were ure heater fans are to help it come out. 4. undo 4 screws on top of ure cluster a remove 2 wiring plugs on top and centre n unplug ure speedo wire. 5. put in new cluster and make sure to link nums 4 and 12 i think look on the back of ure cluster 2 make sure ure gonna link oil press and oil send. 6. put everything back 2 gether and all should work besides oil press 7. get a oil press reg of a berlina or calais about $20 found screwd in the block left to the oil filer. 8. replace this with urs and all will work. pm if u get stuck

Yes there is a tacho signal wire on one of the wiring harnesses behind the instruments, as mine worked when plugged in, you'd have to run a wire off that I assume. It depends on what kind of tacho it is as well I think. You can get ones you just connect to the negative of the coil which wouldn't be hard at all. Sorry it was oil pressure, i said fuel pressure then u need a new oil sender unit lol, that makes a lot of sense, its definately oil pressure Some original photos have not been recovered yet.
