vl berlina auto i can't get 3rd or 4th gear until my car warms up 5-10 min down the road then it works fine also wen i put it from P to D, when drive engages it makes a bit louder noise and it's a lil rougher than usual. is this a sign that it's going to give way soon?

Mate check your oil...first off it sounds like there aint any oil.... But if your losing 3rd and 4th gears then its not that "is this possible that its going to give way soon", Rather it has allready shat itself Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

yeah, check the fluid level, but low fluid levels would cause the box to slip badly, this is very bad and very noticeable, else take it to an Automatic Specialist before you find yourself walking home!!!!! PM me if you would like a recommendation on the workshop.

In regard to not getting 4th gear until the car is warm, that is normal. 4th gear (overdrive) will not engage until the temp inside the auto box is 45degree C. However not getting 3rd gear isnt a good sign. Are you positive it's not engaging into 3rd gear? Start ur car up and it's cold, and take it for a spin, at 100km/h tell us what the revs are. Also how many km's has ur VL berlina done?

ok i think i was just imagining things when its cold..i cruise at higher revs when i'm going 60, thatn when it's warmed up. and i thought 4th comes in at 70...so i was thinking..ok 3rd must be gone but tested today and 2nd is alot higher. my bad! i checked all my fluids including transmission, they're normal. i thought i felt the box slip just a lil today, but i'm probably just imagining it because i'm expecting it. due for a service anyway so i'm gona go put it in after easter thx guys.

yeah i freaked when i first thought OD wasnt kicking in, it was because i lived in brisbane city, and the box had a chance to warm up before getting onto the highways, since i moved back to country vic, i'm on the highway in a minute, two tops. and i'm like WTF, stupid ****ing auto. Then i read about it.... it's nothing to worry about Some original photos have not been recovered yet.
