Hey fella's,
I was talking to a car-audio guy today about what setup I want to put in my car.
- My idea is that im gonna run Kenwood 7x10's in the rear (80watts RMS) off a Kenwood amp (think it puts out about 80 RMS), my front stage is all Top quality Alpine gear.
However, when I told the guy, he said dont run 7x10's cuz they are a 'gimmick'. He reckons I should run 6x9's and a sub, that of course they will proved at a cost. And what ever they do, will be 'real bassy'.
This guy doesnt deal with kenwood gear tho, so i thought his just tryin to get me to get them to install everything. But I wanna do it my self.
So, does anyone know what 7x10's are like. Ive heard they are monsters. I DONT want to have a sub in this car, so i figure i'd go 7x10's.
Cheers guys, Al.
i have a cheap brand of 7x10's that ive never heard of. they are a brand called 'riesen'. they come with the car and sound great but dont have much when u push them they start to distort too much. im running them straight off the HU tho so with an amp it could be different. but yea do wat u feel like some of those audio guys in shops are ***wits.
I have a set of kenwood 320watt (80rms) 7*10's they are bloody awesome from an amp, but I have a high pass filter on them at the moment since I have a sub in the boot.

... i said. AMP. The HU is Alpine neway, and puts out around 20wRMS x 4. That will be running the front splits. An amp for the front may be installed at a later date.
The Amp figs for running the rear parcel shelf are -
350w peak.
60Wrms x 2 at 20-20 kHz 0.08% THD (4 ohms)
150Wrms x 1 at Bridged 1 kHz 0.8% THD (4 ohms)
75Wrms x 2 at 1kHz 0.8THD (2 ohms)
This would be suffient to power the 320W peak, 80wRMS kenwoods?
Cheers.
Dude, i got these kenny's in the back of my car atm. My old setup which im going to install again in this car consisted of..
JVC mp3 HU
6 1/2" kenwood splits
7x10 kenwood rears
12" kenwood 800w sub
800w 5way amp.
System pumped hard.. **** all over my mates twin sub system.. and i think it was because of the added power of the 7x10's.
I had the splits running from the HU and the 7x10's and sub off the amp.. (was supposed to run split off amp but wrote car off first ;P )
IMHO, if your not a sound comp sorta person, keep the 7x10's in mate because they are a very bass orientated speaker and still give good clarity for a large speaker.
cheers

Right on the money!
6x9's/7x10's are a waste of time when you are running a sub.
And who ever said that the 7x10's are what gave you the extra edge over your mates twin sub setup- not the case at all.
Ive got a 10" JL W1, a 10 year old JL Audio sub, running off 70wrms and it thumps harder than a bloke with a Total Recoil SPL 15" running off 1700wrms, whats goin on there?!?!
Box design plays a HUGE part!!
Box design does play a HUGE part, its unbeleiveable how crappy boxes can make good systems piss poor and how a great box can make an average system great
I plan on having a great system with a great box soon

Dude if ur after a mild setup with sum qulity sound then buy the x10s and ad a sub to go with it iea 10 or even a 12 in a good sealed box and it should sound nice n punchy, i curently have the 7x10s amped up in lil boxes in my handi and i gota admit they should pretty good. and sony gear sounds sh i t house.
I used to have the top kenwood 7x10"s and I just ran them off a sony head unit. They sounded pretty good but for the price that you pay for them you can get a sub. 10" subs start at $100 and the 7x10"s are $280+. You can buy 2 subs and a set of 6" coaxles for rear fill.
7x10"s are also a lil tricky to mount without cutting the metal. The parcel shelf will have to be raised a bit and the holes must be centered perfectly.
screw splits up front get fancy with some pods and use 7X10s as front stage it'll be hella loud and put some 8" subs in the back with 4" coaxs its sure to piss of passengers and make a hella lotta bass without spending alot.

lol yeah i know wolfie but when people are talking about kenwood 6x9s or 7x10s being the best when we all know that total recoil hold the SPL record for 6x9s (louder than alot of cars with subs.
Any how running 6x9s with a sub isnt pointless if you hi pass them. and yes they do make a good front stage if you box them correctly but hardly any one does.
just my 2c
oh btw i run focal 165k powered by a ppi 480x bridged into 2 channels = 360watts
plus 2 focal 27k powered by alpine mrd-m1000 - just so u understand where my comments are comming from

he doesnt want a sub, so its either the 6x9s, 7x10s or you might choose to go the pioneer 8 inch speaker, they arnt too bad, my mate is running them in his car at the moment, a hell of a lot louder than his blaupunkt splits
Hey, 7x10's are good for a bit of bass if you've got no intention of putting subs in your car! They're just a complete waste of time if you've got/going to have subs.
I had a set of top end Kenwood 6x9's 10 years ago - it's probably just nostalgia, but *damn* they sounded good!.
Agreeing with some above comments: amp the front speakers, not your ovals. Think of it like this: quality sound coming from the speakers closest to your ears: "noise" coming from the back. There's enough knowledge amongst members here to flesh out that idea if needs be......
