Ok ive got a 2hp air comp, im goin to get a spray pot, just wondering will the compressor be good enough for doing spray painting, also ive got to respray a old vehicle of a mates in acrlyic, what do i need to do to spray it, he is rubbing it back and doin the pannel beating, ive just got to spray it, i know youve got to prepwash it, what sort or ratio eg paint/thinners do you use in the spray pot some tips would be handy!

Most paint shops will tell you the mixtures when you buy the paint, just ask, as a lot of paints vary too much. If you are goin to paint with that little air comp it may pay to get a larger back up tank to hold more reserve air as the little 2 horse will soon get way too hot!!!!!!!

even still the 2hp aint gonna suffice to do a decent job paint tins will have the rundown on application and mixtures as u said use prepsol beforehand or acetone can be used also if ur using the smaller compressor , try using a gravity gun rather than the pot gun.

yep. i know what you mean, i'll get a lend of my mates gravity sprayer, yeah all it is is rubbing back the cowl + cabin and givin it a coat of paint, how do i go resprayn plastics?, like it has plastic side guards, do i just rub it back a bit, then prepsol and paint or do i need to use something else on plastics

or u can spray an adhesion promoting primer first , then u dont need to put flexaid in.

so instead of using thinners with the paint you just add flexaid or the whole 3? eg paint, thinners and flexaid???

no, you add it into the final mix i.e. Paint+Thiners+Flexiadd (+Hardner if your using 2k) Their should be instructions on the bottle.

If your spraying Plastics (ie: new bumper bar) do you need to add a flex primer, or is flexaid enough. Would you need to prime the plastics after a light sanding of 800 wet, then apply the paint with flexaid, or does flexaid include the right materials so you dont have to prime the plastics, just rub them back?

Alright i'll go through the steps of painting a new plastic bar/plastic panel This is used on every day, even on OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturing stuff sent to holden and ford) 1. Clean the new bar with Soap and Water 2. Very Light scuff, using scotch bright etc.. (you can get specific scuff pads from paint shops) just enough to get rid of the shine, be carefull not ot go through the initial gloss coat it's supplied in. 3. A very light coat of Acrylic undercoat (even if your using 2pac use Acrylic as the first caot) with about %5 flexx add. 4. 400 or 600 light rub 5. Another coat of Acrylic undercoat to help build it up again %5 flex add 6. I'd suggest a good 4-6 hours to dry properly 7. Rub and then you can add your 2k undercoat if thats what your using or you can go Acrylic color from here. * Flexaid in the acrylic color use the amount suggested on the bottle of the flexaid. * When adding Flexaid to 2k, your datasheets should tell you how much to add, if not theirs a suggested amount on the bottle. any questions?

so steve, with the plastic parts on this thing im resprayn, all i will need to do is rub it back abit, add flexaid to the mix of paint and spray it, Im not doing a pro job of it, its just a bit of a touch up spray job so he can sell it for a bit more, like the cowl of the tractor has some surface rust coming through the old paint where it has worn off, all I will do is rub it back, spray on some primer and paint it, then i'll just give it a cut and polish and it will be good enough

yep. But this is assuming they used flexadd in the original spray, where if it hasn't shown any cracks should be ok.
