My bonnet release handle thing was broken so when i bought it you had to hold the plastic part and pull on the cable to open it. I recently got the whole thing the handle plasticy part and the cable from the wreckers, but when the plastic part is mounted in the factory position there is a lot of slack in the cable and it wont release the bonnet. If you pull all the excess into the cabin and pull tension on it then it will release. any ideas on how to fix this as i cant have it hanging down around the accelerator pedal and i need to be able to open my bonnet. -Antho

yeah I thought of that but you cant as the cable has a head that attaches to the lever that releases the bonnet at one end and at the other and it has a cylinder that iss attached to the handle and allows you to pull the cable so you really cant trim it without taking these pieces off and im pretty sure they dont come off. I can try to get a pic today if that will help.

pic would be good, what if you trimmed the part that sits in the engine bay. and tie it to the metal pulley that releases the bonnet.

Don't muck around with those bonnet cables, don't bother with one from a wrecker as it will most likely break again as I found out in my first VL,don't bother with the aftermarket ones either as they also break. The cables we've had the best luck with (in both a VL and VN) are the genuine items from Holden, they cost a bit more but will last longer.

it most likely strecthed or about to brake but you could try adjusting it its kinda hard to tell you without a pic will see what i can find unless someone else beats me to it but i think vlt-dreamer and i have the same idea

there is just alot of slack in the cable now and the only thing wrong with the one i had before is that the lip that it was mounted to the side of the car was broken so it just hung down around my feet and gave me the s**ts, so i got the whole thing from the wreckers.

Bumping this thread back up, Antho how does it mount on that side wall, I haven't bothered getting down that far to have a look. But I've got the same kinda problem. I'm fairly sure if I pull the handle in its factory spot the black part will come out of the white part. But yeah how does it mount, is it possible to get a picture?

to put it back into the bit near the pedals, u push it into the hole sideways and then push it forward and it locks into position, its a bit tricky but once u get how to do it its easy as. mine atm has stretched so i need to re tighten it in engine bay.

boys there should be a screw about 10cms from the 'knob on the end of the cable'(infront of the radiator).but the radiator had to be removed on mine... just loosen the screw, pull the whole cable tight, then screw the screw tight again.then goes back in the radiator. "but beware this may snap/fray a stretched cable after a few times of opening the bonnet as the cable hasn't really got the strength"

Got it, I had to remove the kick panel just so I could manouvre it a bit better. But it was rather easy once I did that. Basically there's two holes in the car, you put the part with the 2 U shaped bits in the hole so it lines up on its channel. And then push it forward as far as it goes. Removal would be to pull it towards the rear of the car, and then it will become very loose, pull it towards the passenger side. I've got excess cable now though aswell, and my plastic bit is broken, every time I pull on it the black part forces the white bit sideways. I was hoping I could dodge something up but I might just buy a new one.

Holy **** this is an old thread. Im pretty sure I just got the whole lot from the wreckers and replaced everything rather than stuffing around trying to fix it. Best way to learn how things work is try it at the wreckers that way if you break something it doesnt matter, you just move on to the next vl, then you don't wreck your own car either.

only problem here is that the wreckers are running out of vl's. There used to be an abundance, but now theres only about 4 in one and 4 in the other, and they're both stripped almost bare.
