Hey
I was once told by some one off these forums,if you have an auto gearbox
you can place a small peice of rubber or somthing simular, some where under neath near your acceleration pedal which lets you get alot higher revs out of first gear before it shifts into second, can some one please tell me this in more detail , like what to use and where exactly to place it
Any help would be much appreciated
Cheers
Damien
do a search on "auto kickdown" or something to that effect, there's a thread with the whole thing explained. i did it in mine and put up heaps of info in that thread....
oh and the best automatic mod i have done yet is to put in a stage II shift kit from KEAS in melbourne, pm transman and ask him about it. $66, it has improved all my kickdowns and upshifts dramatically, no rev flare now just a clean, hard shift into all gears. you can fit it yourself if you know a bit about stuff....
So its a case of
Take the strainer off, remove the VB (valve body), open the BIATCH up ( there is 3 plates ) alotta springs, valves and check balls ?
P.s of course that simplifed but ya get the picture.
How much harder/faster does it shift ?
take pan off, drain oil out, (here i'd leave the strainer on, it's heaps easier to get off once the valve body is out) take out the valve body and then the fun starts!
valve body has a bunch of tiny springs and cups in it, so must be separated very carefully with care not to lose anything! detailed diagrams and/or photos of it are required to replace any stuff that jumps out. (happened to me)
so basically unbolt it and then take a certain spring out (oil regulator spring for shifts) and replace it with the new one, then put it all back together using the new separator plate (goes in between top and bottom halves of valve body). bolt it all back together, put back in gearbox taking care to line up the vacuum modulator pin with the vacuum modulator and the shifting rail with the shifting bolt (pretty easy stuff) and bolt everything back together! simple as that.
good god what an essay....
p.s. 1-2 shift is much quicker (especially when revved out to 70km/h) and harder, 2-3 is really hard and almost jerky. the best improvement is in downshifts though, they are pretty much immaculate now, like a new box again.
