Ok ok I know this is a Holden forum but I was hoping for advice that wasn't one eyed. I love all decent cars, I even respect Fords, my mate has an AU XR8 which makes me want to get an 8. My choice is basically between a VR SS and the Toyota Soarer / Lexus SC400 with a 4.0ltr quad cam 32 valve engine with 194kws. No one can deny it is a superior engine to the Holden pushrod v8 which is only 165kws stock. But there are no manual v8 soarers and I was after manual but still a manual 165kw engine isn't as powerful as a 194kw auto, and manual SSs are rare. The VR looks tougher but the Soarer is more classy and more luxurious, with way more tech. They are both approximately the same price but insurance is double for the Soarer. What do people think?

I wish i had to make that decision, my opinion go Toyota, that 1UZFE V8's is a winner. Even better add some boost.

Personally I would go for the soarer. I think it looks awesome, it's classy and it goes alright as well. They're both pretty heavy beasts so if you want to make it go real quick, it could end up costing bucketloads (like everything). If your going to leave it stock/close to stock, I think they're excellent cars.

Go the SS if only for the huge range of off the self products available, lets face it before long you will want more power and sound. One of those Vorech series superchargers is what i would be aiming for if i had a injected V8.

You can buy parts for a 304 anywhere in Aus pretty cheap...... To keep a 1UZFE on the road will cost a lot more. It depends how much you are willing to spend... Why don't you buy a VR exec V6 ($8k), rip the donk out, sell it off, drop in a 1UZFE from a front cut($3-4k) It would solve all of your issues and would be a nice custom car. Just a thought. Cheers.

I'd go the SS, I think the Soarer is a better car, but it's just going to be a moneypit. Even little things, like when you need to change brake pads, can you go to Supercheap and find brakepads for a Soarer? I'd be suprised if you could. On the other hand you can walk down the street and trip over Commodore parts. And the age of the cars, 10yrs old, they're getting to the point where little things will start going wrong. And insurance on a grey import will be enourmous.

In regards to quality, the Soarer is far superior. I guess the only benefit of owning just another commodore is that parts and labour will cost less. Other then that, the Soarer is definitely the better choice. A manual V8 Soarer is very rare, and can cost a little more then the auto - but it's worth it, as the Soarer will keep it's value a sh1t load better then any Holden or Ford Australia motor car.

Perhaps it will hold it's value better but that'll easily be offset by insurance costs alone if you intend on keeping it for a period of time.

VR SS in my opinion... whats so superior about the soarer v8 to the holden v8? soarers are ugly in my opinion no offence

Btw the twin turbo version is faster and powerful then the v8 version

I'd get the VR SS. If you bought the Soarer though, would you still deep down inside be thinking you should have bought the SS? Cuz if that's the case - the get the SS. Go with your gut feeling. I could have bought my dad's 200sx S-15, for half the price I paid for my VS Clubby. But I knew that I wouldn't be as happy in a 200, as I would be in a Clubby. So I went with my gut, and even though it cost me more $$, I'd still never change my choice if I could. That's just my 2cents

Sure the Soarers V8 is more advanced, but why does someone one buy a V8, for that nasty growl and for terrible fuel consumption - The SS does both of them easily. hehe no harsh feelings V8 fans If you're looking at a soarer go the TT version as they are quicker and use less fuel and are easier to extract more power when the time comes. Are they called 1jzgte or something, cant keep up with toyota engine names. Thats just my 3 cents
