with the money it would cost to put a 6 speed in your VL you could probably buy a better turbo or something and get the same result! but i agree, it would be an awesome thing to have, a six speed box.

why do you want to go a 6 speed? The only 6 speed box that comes to mind is a Getrag box out of an R34 GTR or a Supra MKIV. They go for over $3000 each and you'd need to modify the trans tunnel and probably get a custom bellhousing made up. It'd be alot easier and cheaper to just stick with a 5 speed MX7 or RB25DET box.

an extra gear would be great for the freeway/highway driving other wise petrol and high revs in 5th is a killah with diff gears higher than 4.11's

your looking at about $15,000 for a Holinger. Also check out Pfitzner Gearboxes here in Adelaide if your going to be spending that kind of money. http://www.holinger.com.au/ http://www.gearbox-racing.com/

Mal Wood's son I believe has a 6 speed in his VL- but its a V8. Not sure about the details, but its cuzzo. I know of a getrag 5 speed for sale that would suit track abuse and needs an RB20 bellhousing to fit an Rb30 from what I've heard. Brent, I'm looking your way...

There was an article about 5 years back with a VLT in SA running a 6 speed, not sure if it was in Zoom or one of those. We all wait to see how you go and let the procession of 6 speed VLT's (for those with deep pockets) begin.

Just because it's a 6 speed doesn't mean that it will drop your revs down because there's an extra gear. It just means more gears to play with. Same as 4 speed/ 5 speed, there's not really any difference in revs. It all comes down to what the final gear ratio is.

If you can get a Hollinger for 8K, I'll take it. the 6 speed getrag in the supras has a 1:1 5th, so has closer ratios rather than bigger legs like some of the T56 boxes

Nobody here has mentioned the Tremec six speed box, its almost bullet proof and there is a adaptor to fit it to the vl engine. I belive the box is about $6000 new.
