Peoples, Its a VL Turbo Calais, Need to know some info about my own car!!! All i have done to it is added EMS stinger, Bosch Porsche F/Pump + Large Regulator With Surge Tank. Large Exhaust with Dump Pipe on Turbo... Dyno reads 13.5 psi.. How come its got so much boost.. (Not Complaining) It is a genuine MX7 Manual Box, According to tags.. Brock Interior (Beige), No Intercooler & No visable mod's on motor...oh and it has K&N Pod Question.. Is this an options thing when ordered? Or is it some sort of special edition... Could Not tell if turbo has been hi-flowed or not...

sounds like the boost has been set at 13.5psi instead of 6-7psi. There were no special VL turbos/calais that came with extra boost.. maybe the odd engine that produced 7.5psi that was just a freak thing.. but nothing like 13 odd psi. hope that helps.

Maybe the wastegate has been opened up a little more and is catching on something? not closing properly? i dunno.. who cares, your car is faster than stock, be happy. lol.

Actually when I think about it, it sounds as though the previous owner of your VL could have possibly tampered with the wastegate spring(perhaps swapped it over for a stiffer spring) and the stiffness of this spring is not allowing the wastegate to open up when it should be, causing an overboost situation.

I hand made a full 3" exhaust for my old vlt, added a malpassie reg and cold air intake. and had the same result about 13psi but it pinged bad above 4500rpm and had to fit a cooler. I put it down to the extra flow and volisity of the exhaust gas being to great for the stock internal wastgate. No boost controller .
