Started my n/a vl yesterday morning, only to hear a fairly loud ticking noise coming from the engine. Was in a rush to get to work, knew the oil level was ok, so continued on regardless. Pulled up at work, engine now at operating temp, only to still hear the ticking noise. Then today, the same thing. The noise goes away at about 2500+ rpm's. My thinking is valve/s but not knowing much about the head, just not sure. Anyone else had this problem ?

My vl does this when you start it most mornings, only for about 10 seconds though, then stops, It doesnt do it at all during the day only first thing in the morning.

im sure i read somewhere that if you change your oil with diesel engine oil, and run the car for about 500km that it will clean out all the sludge build ups and deposits in your engine (due to detergents in the oil because diesel engines produce alot more carbon or something), maybe that whould be worth a try? isnt that why lifters stuff up in the first place? they get so full of crap that they dont work properly?

Yeah ive got that exact problem myself. It only used to be when it started when cold. Then it went to everytime its idiling, and now its gotten to the stage where it ticks while driving at low RPM.... So yes it is the hydrolic lifters.

I put in a bottle of Nulon Worn Engine treatment due to Calais N/A motor having 255K on clock and it has shut up my lifter noise i had for a few mins i starter her every morning. I also bought the Nulon lifter free to do on next oil change. But yeah give that a shot depending on how many K's motor has Good Luck Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

I think lifter ticking has alot to do with the viscosity of the oils some ppl use. Quote: Diesel Oil into Motor ,Hmmm has anyone done this or recommend it? umm no but i once drained all the oil out of my bros car, put 3L of diesel (petrol) in the oil cap and then let the car run for 3 minutes or so. went in pink, came out the sump black and thick as a mofo. Let it drain for ages, crank a few times, gets some more out, then fill it up with fresh oil, lifters were sweet (weren't that bad to start with, just a few ticks on startup) but yeah didnt do any harm to the motor, run just as good as always. Peace out

you can buy engine flushes for when you do an oil change. you just put it in with the old oil, run for 30 mins or something and then drain.
