well, i got my oil pressure and boost gauge, now what else should i have? i don't believe that i need water temp, as the factory one is very good... so that leaves oil temp? do i need it? anything else?

I wouldn't be relying on any factory VL gauge... there's another vote for water temp from me J Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

yeah after market gauges on ya bonnet.....monster tacho, with shift light on the dash, right hand side of course.....then you can have factory dash with gauges disconected and after market gauges hanging every where...nice and ricie Test your factory gauge ie: go for a long drive...then use a thermometer to make sure the temp is good....oversly if it shows 2 bar on your factory gauge and the thermo is reading 70-80 degrees....then you have a problem

EEVL you sure. Mine stick just over the second line and it shows 82 degrees on Microtech. Which is correct temp. tempest115 if you have an auto why don't you get an auto temp gauge. especially useful if you have a big stall convertor

WOW now I know why I loose coolent all the time....and mine sit on the 3rd bar........I'll find out how to get it fixed... I'm not one for gauges for the sake of having gauges...however if I was draging my car then I would have every gauge I could get...then again I would'nt have a standard dash eather....

I'm not having gauges for the sake of it, but i do however want to try and keep an eye on what is happening to my engine. This is why i am questing whether or not the factory gauge is any good or not, what the hell is the point in another gauge if the factory one is good? RB3-747, i would but a got a mx7 in it.. got rid of my slush box... i was questioning whether or not to get the oil temp as the oil cools the turbo just as well as the water, yeah? I could be wrong, but oil has a high boiling point. Remembering that the oil gets pumped to the top of the engine and works its way back down, at the same time you have the coolant pumping around the motor. By rights the coolant would be cooling the oil down. So really they should be around the same temp. So I dont think the oil pumping through the turbo will help cool it down, but would be helping with the friction on the working parts and the coolant would be cooling the oil and turbo down.. However I could be wrong.....witch wont supprise some people.... Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

na ur on the ball there.. oil = lubrication water = cooling i personally would have water temp, oil pressure, fuel pressure and boost as my 4 MAIN guages, as they monitor the 4 most important things. Anything after that would be trans temp if i had auto, and possibly a tacho if i wanted to be like scoota k ! Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

oil also provides cooling for the turbo as well. I dont use an oil pres guage, i prefer to run an oil pres pencil light (like a really small shift light) to warn of low oil pressure, just one less bulky guage to bother looking at, and a flashing bright coloured light will get my attention more than having to look at an array of guages when im concentrating on driving. you can also get water temp ones (they use elec senders) so you can set it to like 100 degrees) if it lights up, you know its time to pull over and have a look Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

oil has a flashpoint , for which it indicates when itll burn (basically) anyway - grant , get water temp , but if u really want a elec fuel pressure , then a chap on boostcruising is selling a ultra-lite one (top of range) for $500 good price , still expensive though.

but a VLT has those already, I said race cars, not dirt toys, lol do you guys heat your oil in any way before you go out on the track?

Well what about an air/fuel ratio guage. I'd say thats more important than a oil pressure guage. If you have a look at www.autospeed.com (http://www.autospeed.com) , in the shop section they have most of the autometer guages. There are some realy weird guages like cylinder head temp guage Since your putting in a turbo motor you may also look into a intake air temp guage. Its pretty ricey, I was thinking about using the temp guage on a VDO Daton head unit for this purpose but the guy said it'll melt. Some original photos have not been recovered yet.
