I've never heard of one, are you sure it isnt a SV3800? Would be great to find out some more info on them as 187kw is bullsh!t power from a n/a 3.8L. It's almost unbelievable, it means HSV produced a VN 6 that made more power than a SV5000. Jake.

Information taken from the book 'HSV 1988 - 1991 A Complete Guide to Holden Special Vehicles' SV89 (1989) - 200 built, 180kW V8 SV6 (1989) - 64 built, 132kW V6 (essentially SV3800 without luxury trimmings) SV LE Sedan and Wagon (1989) - 110 sedans built, 80 wagons built, 180 kW V8 (designed to satisfy residual demand for SV89 but more of a budget model as to not destroy SV89 exclusivity) SV5000 (1989) - 359 built, 200kW V8 (at time of release, the hottest version of the Commodore ever) SV T-30 (1990) - 30 built, 180kW V8 (very limited edition based on the SV89 for the Top 30 dealers) HSV Club Sport (1990) - 350 built, 180kW V8 (based on SV89 power but very budget interior (no electrics, cloth seats etc) so car was faster due to almost 200kgs less weight) SV90 (1990) - 134 built, 180kW V8 (HSV Statesman) HSV Maloo Ute (1990) - 200 built annually, 180kW V8 (first HSV utility) SS Group A SV (1990) - 302 built, 215kW V8 (ultimate development of the VN series for Group A homologation) SV91 Prototype (1991) - 1 built, 180kW V8 (prototype for VP series SV91) 5000i (1991) - 50 built, 200kW V8 (HSV Statesman with SV5000 mechanicals and brake package) HSV T30 (1991) - 10 built, 200kW V8 (offered to Top 30 dealers (like the 1990 T30) with more powerful engine, SV5000 interior but an exterior that was little changed from a standard Berlina) HSV LS Ute (1991) - 75 built, 180kW V8 (dress up pack based on the 'S') SV6/SV3800 Power Output Maximum Power: 132kW (DIN) @ 4800rpm (177 horsepower) Maximum Torque: 292Nm (DIN) n@ 3200rpm Sounds like your car is one of a kind, if anything it would be a SV3800 or the lesser optioned SV6. Either way, still a great car. Looking forward to hearing more. Jake.

Information from a book I have says, "The HSV VN Commodore plus 6 was released in March 1991". You could go to the HSV website to there Q&A section and ask about it.

Wow, HSV make a bull**** amount of cars. It's disturbing how many of them are just dress-ups and not special at all.

Sorry as I just read also, HSV did make a +8 and +6. You dont hear of them very often thats for sure. The +8 has these figures: Number Built: 80 (25 Manual, 55 automatic) Engine: 4987 cc V8 Power: 180 kW @ 4800 rpm (241 hp) Torque: 400 Nm @ 3600 rpm (295 ft/lb) I'm yet to find figures for the +6 but I know unless it has a blower strapped to it- there is no chance of it making equal or more power than the +8. And if it does I want the cam profile, head specs and a burnt EPROM from yours. Maybe they got bored and stroked the old 3.8l. Old Gold- I agree 100%, they went quite crazy in the earlier years. Jake. Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

Shame as well, because their best cars (The last Gp As) were also built in this early time as well. I'm pretty sure they were all holden cars built under contract by HSV tho.

It's almost unbelievable, it means HSV produced a VN 6 that made more power than a SV5000. Jake. I've been in one and it was quicker than a standard 5 litre V8 and standard VLT ex chaser. I asked the owner what speed he had it up to and he said off the clock, the VN speedo goes up to 220 KPH in a VN and this one did more than that, apparently the motor has mods including an increase in compression ratio, different camshaft and rewritten engine management, when I went in the car,we were going for a spin and I didn't know much about HSV's at the time,I though yeah,it's only a V6 so what, but then he nailed it and it got up to 120 KPH in a space of around 50 metres,it left me pinned to the back seat I was sitting on,had a lot more go than a standard V6 but you also have to remember the motor is lighter than the 5 litre as well, but it would kill an XR6 in the same era as Tickford went to great pains to build a performance car by doing mild rework to their 4 litre then dropping their diff ratio to 3.45:1 and then comparing it to a tarted up Holden Commodore V6 with a standard motor, namely the S pack. I estimated 200 KW to be the power output so 187 isn't far off that.

Very interesting, I guess I doubted it because I've been around 3.8's for a few years and had never heard of it. Let alone HSV tweaking a non ecotec V6 to make that kind of power. You really can't bore them over 20thou and they are pretty weak without the 4 bolt mains. You have to admit it was a strange thing for HSV to do. All the same it sounds like one animal of a V6. Jake.

I would seriously doubt that they were 187kws. standard they were 132kws!? thats a fair power increase. I could be wrong. cheerz morepsi

I'm with you on that morepsi, we may be proved wrong but I have my doubts. Although it is possible, a 20thou oversize, remap, crow stage III cam, headwork and a good exhaust has been known to make 150rwkw in a manual 3.8l. Jake.

I'm not saying it can't be done, but for HSV to release a V6 more powerful than the V8 at the time, would have been redundant wouldn't it? 55 kw's is alot of power in anyone language, especially for a dated n/a non ecotec V6. My old man's 180kw VN LE Wagon was considered alot at the time (1990) and it was only 15kws over standard!

Yeah, I would be surprised if it was "that easy" to get that much power from them. I mean, you'd literally have to whack a turbo on the side to see those gains (unless there was some serious, serious work done to the engine!).

The HSV +6 is listed as having the 125KW V6 same as the standard Commodore V6 but due to the actual build dates of the cars it should have had the refined EV6 motor that appeared in the VP. It was based of the S pac version and came with a few SS bits along with a few HSV added extras. Trim was the same as the LS model and Paintwork was the Statesman colour Ruby Red. Basically the car was a special contract build for the 91 Melbourne Motor Show. 1SIKVL, PM me if you want more info Corsa
