Steven's car was originally bought as a dead stock, 1987 Vacationer with a normally aspirated engine attached to an automatics transmission. This was 3 years ago, and since then, a lot has happened.
First of all, Steve changed the exhaust to a 2 1/2 inch, with extractors and added a k+n filter. This was OK for a while until 3 pistons decided to be no more, so with the engine out and gettin rebuilt, he resprayed the engine bay. The engine came back with hypertechnic pistons, head ported and polished, and a stage 2 cam. Unfortunately, Steven then lost his license a couple of months later. At that time, he realised he wasn't getting anywhere fast without forced induction!
So with no license the car was off the road again. Steven then bought a vl turbo cam, hi flow t3/t4 turbo, exhaust and inlet manifold, turbo injectors and vl manual turbo computer. A great start to building a turbo motor. Steve's best mate and himself got to work in his shed bolting it all together. A decrompression plate was laser cut to lower the compression, and with 2 nissan head gaskets it all went together sweet with the exsisting old head because it was already ported and polished. At the same time Steven alsopurchased a R33 5 spd gearbox and bolted that up with a new heady duty clutch, new tailshaft, and lastly a VL V8 diff went in with a new mini spool, and new set of 3:9 gears for extra kick on acceleration.
For the brakes Steven bought a 1 inch master cylinder, vl turbo front caplipers and cross drilled and slotted rotors front and rear. A wise investment as the standard non turbo brakes are, well, crap. After a few more weeks Steven picked up a custom frount mount cooler, a 3inch mandrel bent exhaust, hi-flow internal pump and bosch 500hp external pump, with malpassi reg, and also a oil air seperator. The car sits on 17x7.5 inch mags with 235/45/17s all round and is lowered with kings super low springs, with KYB shortened shocks, and an adjustable panhard rod.
The inerior is faily basic with chequer plate floor mats, calais rear seat, boost gauge and monster tacho. The stereo features an Alpine head deck, 4 inch alpine speakers in the front, pioneer 6x9s, and 2x12 inch sony xpld subs run by a xplod amp. The boot was retrimmed at the same time with black felt and custom panels and a new steering wheel was also added at the same time.
Steven has had tje car dynoed once before the intercooler and bigger fuel pumps were fitted, and it made 242 hp @ the wheels at only 4800 rpm when it started leaning out too much. He says that he hasn't had it done since, but boost is adjustable between 10 and 17 psi, resulting in some healthy horsepower.
