Some people are lucky enough to have siblings who enjoy the same hobbies, and are fans of the same thing. This was the case with Matt's car, who bought it off his brother with a fair bit of work already carried out on it. This work includes replacing all of the hoses and fittings, as well as all sensors including AFM and CAS. The bearings in the gearbox have been replaced with new ones, and the fittment of a heavy duty clutch. As of now the clutch has been changed again, this time they went for a Daikin Pressure Plate with a Centreforce 5 puck semi sprung plate, it was found to be very streetable and a much better clutch for the increased power output now.
Mods where also performed before Matt's name was on the rego papers. These where done by JPC and greatly improves the power of the car. The modifications include, a Turbo Smart stage 2 BOV(which has now been sold with the AVO 1 cooler)and a AVO stage 1 intercooler(which was sold to fund the PWR front mount), boost was also raised to 16psi(now at 19 with the new cooler), or can be set to standard boost if required with an adjustable boost controller.
On the inside a few luxuries where added to take advantage and keep an eye of the new power. These include an Autometer boost gauge, air/fuel mixture gauge, and oil pressure gauge, Momo steering wheel with matching gear knob, central locking and BES turbo timer.
A stage 5 car alarm with three immobilisers and remote boot release was added so all this hard work wasnt going to go to waste. The old cruise contol switch was taken advantage of when the boost controller was fitted and was modified to do the switching. A wagon satellite switch was also used to switch on and off the air/fuel gauge as it pisses you off on the highway.
The parcel shelf was also modified to hide the new stereo components which comprises of a Pioneer P88R Head Unit(Headunit has also now been changed to Poineer P1), which runs through a coustic XM5e crossover and into 3 coustic 460i amps and a coustic 362i amp, earthquake carbon fibre 4" splits provide a good front stage while coustic 406 splits are used for rear fill. The Lower frequencies are made by 2 soundstream rubicon 12" inch Subwoofers. To make sure the amps get the power they need, a phoenix gold(now changed to stinger HPM cap) capacitor was added, and all components except the head unit are hidden away from the prying eyes of the deprived thieves. A new boot install is on the cards at the moment, hope to get a few pics up soon.
The exterior has also consumed a fair amount of dollars. The body has been given a full 2pack paint job in Champagne Green after the bumper bars where modified to suit the smaller number plates, the bootlid was debadged and all new mouldings and chrome parts where added. With the a great new paint job, the car needed some bigger rollers, so a set of VX SS wheels where added, as well as JET-6 number plates. The windows where also tinted. Once again the car has been repainted now(color altered slightly to lighten it up a little) as hail damage occured in 02, its been in the process of a full exterior rebuild, new moulds(boot, doors, windows, etc), new front and rear lights and all other external parts, even the windscreen wipers are new!
Now a car like this would look plain silly if it still sat at taxi height, so King springs, pump up rear shocks, adjustable panhard rod, and larger front sway bar not only assist handling, but also drops the car closer to the deck. One other thing that wasnt overlooked as many people do, was the brakes which has new rotors and pads been recently added. Once again the brakes have been updated again to DBA slotted rotors and Ferodo Formula pads, with Lucas race fluid
It hasn't all been smooth sailing for JET-6 as it has had its fair share of problems including lots of gearbox troubles requiring it to be taken apart 3(make that 4 now, done a cluster shaft bearing) times, and broken CV in the tailshaft and there not cheap either. Several destroyed sensors and equipment in the engine bay has also occured.
But otherwise a its a very tough drive line for standard. Future plans include selling the standard turbo and upgrade to a hy-Flow or a T04(still having no problems with the unit on there atm) and also sell the stage 1 cooler and upgrade to a stage 2 or custom cooler(AVO 1 sold and new front mount 300 x 600 PWR cooler and pipework fitted, see pics). An upgrade to an aftermarket management system may also be on the cards.
