BOOSTN - One of Queensland's finest VL turbos. Mario is the proud owner of this 1987 alpine white calais turbo. From the outside, you could be forgiven for thinking that there is not too much done to this car. Well, starting at the motor, the current motor is a RB30ET fitted with Wiseco forged pistons. The inlet and exhaust manifolds are still stock, as is the cylinder head. There is no plans to upgrade this hardware. Also in the rear of the car currently sits a 3.89:1 mini spooled diff with 31 spline billet axles. However, Mario has some 4.11s on order and will be fitted up soon. The auto gearbox is a Yarra Valley special with a 2800rpm stall. The intercooler is by Hyperflow measuring 600x300x90 and is a bar and plate item. Running the engine is a MoTeC M800 management with all new sensors. The distributor has been ditched in favour of a direct fire ignition setup using 6 factory coils. The MoTeC extras include a 3 bar map sensor and an M800 loom. At this stage only a basic street tune has been developed due to not being able to vent excess boost fast enough through the internal gate. The turbo is a T04/T3 with an internal wastegate running into a 1" stainless screamer and 3.5" stainless dump pipe. The rest of the exhaust is a 3.5" system with a race magnum muffler. Development on this motor has since ceased. This is because, the boys are in the early stages of building a big RB30DET. Suspension has been upgraded with Bilstein shocks, Lovell springs, Whiteline swaybar, a panhard rod and nolathane bushes. The brake rotors have been upgraded to DBA items. On the inside, the standard seats have been replaced with Cobra racing items and autometer gauges have been fitted. On the fuel side of things, in the rear is a Bosch 984 pump and surge tank, which is controlled by a Malpassi fuel pressure regulator. Can't wait to see this one finished. RB30ET block with nitrated crank in preparation for RB30DET build. When second best isn't good enough. :P 55mm XTR gate now fitted. UPDATE 11/11/03: BOOSTN is off the road again, we are having problems with controling boost levels, we believe the problem to be the internal gate not venting gasses quick enough. An XTR 55mm external has been given the go ahead and will be fitted by the end of this week. The 4:11 LSD is now on hold as the 3.9 is taking the power better than we thought(in a straight line). The m800 has been fitted and a dyno tune isnt far away. We have given it a test run and although boost goes above 25psi when set on 10(good sign of the waste gate unable to cope with boost levels), there is no sign of detonation . Thanks goes out to Brad for his endless hours of tuning the car. UPDATE 13/12/03: BOOSTN has now had its first dyno run and has produced 265rwhp @ 5500rpm on 1 bar of boost, wastegate is now fitted and boost control is no longer a problem .
