ONICE - 86 VL BT1
This is the well known around Melbourne, ONICE. It's not hard to miss with the airbrushing over the car, the big kit, and the even bigger wheels. The base colour itself is PPG orange pearl, and this covers the body, along with the aero front bar, rear bar and sideskirts, the walky bonnet scoop, and lastly over the walky wing. The visual feast isn't just on the paint work and the wheels though, the detailing carries right through to the interior, and of course the engine bay. On the inside, the seats are covered in red over grey leather trim. Chequer plate floor matts have been installed for good looks, and the steering wheel is a Momo item.
The other big draw card to the interior, apart from the lucsious seats, is the big stereo. It consists of a Alpine DCA 7852 head unit which leads to the Pionner 7inch TV. Attached to these are a DVD player and Playstation 2, just in case movies weren't enough in your car. There are 2x15" subs powered by Soundstream Class "A" amps and lastly Infinty speakers.
The engine has had a whole bunch of money spent on it as well, as you can probably tell from the photos. The RB30 has an O-ringed block to hold the head and block together more tighly under high boost pressures, shot-peened rods for extra durability, ARP rod bolts, and APEP forged pistons. The cam is a wade unit, and the pressure cooker is a Hybrid Garret Turbonetic turbo. This obviously leads to a front mount intercooler of large proportions. A MoTeC controls the running of the motor.
From there, the power is spun through a worked Jatco, and out through the 3.91:1 LSD. The power is put to the ground through the chromed 18" Matrix rims wearing 235 tyres. A 3" exhaust also fits into the equation. The last pieces of the pie are the upgraded brakes with slotted and cross drilled DBA rotors and Pedder's Heavy Duty struts & lowered springs.
The person who did the airbrushing is Matt Egan from Extreme Disg. Below is a picture of him in action.
This VL has so far seen action in ShowOff 2002, Autosalon 2002 and AutoExpo 2002. It has been featured in Street Commodores in May 1998 and October 2001, and is in the next Street Machine Magazine. These photo's were professionally taken on behalf of Street Machine Magazine, thank you to them, they have a great magazine.
