I have a standard t3 atm.
When boost hits at about 2,800 - 3,000rpm, i can hear this kind of screetching noise coming from the turbo.. and it has to be the turbo because if i drive it in vaccum it doesnt happen. Now it's not hella loud, but, you can hear it outside of the car quite clearly and you can tell its another sound apart from the "whistling".
It boosts fine every time, never misses a beat, no smoke either.. any idea's what i should be looking at?
Cheers.

turbo to manifold gasket leaking?

hmm.. would that make a screetching sound or more like an air escaping sound? like a whooshing?
I'll check it though definetly.
The other night i gave my car a bit of a hard run. The sound dissapeared for a little while, then came back later on.. if that helps.
Apparently the turbo is fine as it has been tested,

i dont think its the wheel on the comp cover... it doesnt make a sound when its just starting to boost, its when it hits boost hard..
I'm going to check the manifold gasket... hopefully its just that, that is stuffed. Can i fix it myself? or should i get it done by a mechanic? Im good with a spanner so if i can do it i will.
Cheers.

Its pretty simple man. All you need to do it take off your dump pipe bolts and where the turbo meets the manifold undo the 4 bolts there. You should be able to change it without undoing the manifold from the head and undoing the oil and water lines to the turbo.

Had some problems with mine like that! turns out its the turbo to manifold gasket, i was advised to get both faces machined flat and bolt it up without anything between. will be doing it next week!
cheers
