1. make sure it is the Turbo first, not the AFM. 2. Get it fixed before it gose bang, as it will be cheaper. 3. Have a bourbon and coke, It'll make ya feel better..... Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

just with checkin things, you said you changed your cooler pipes the day before..I split a hose when I was running a very small cooler...the thing still booster to tho it did sound funny......but I new somthing was wrong because of the black smoke commin out of the exhaust......after while (the next day) I planted my foot and BANG....the hose tore in half.... No boost and heaps of black smoke...changed the hose and every thing was back to normal.......

From the sounds of it it could be a blown turbo seal, does it only blow a ****load of smoke when idling?

do you have an air flow meter? If you have a leak in the cooler piping, air will come through, get measured, get boosted, get leaked, but fuel will be matched to it hence mega rich mixtures and black smoke. This will also be why the turbo made a bigger whistle - it would be spooling its arse off. * but i wouldnt thing a rich mixture would make that much smoke :P.
