Silly questions to everyone else, but ive never had a blow off valve on a car b4 this new one.. i want to get rid of it asap, but its a type 2 turbosmart one.. and the end screws left and right, soft and hard.. what does this do? Does screwing/unscrewing this regulate how hard/soft the air comes out of the blow off? and what should i have it set at? cheers

The spring holds the BOV valve shut at idle, and its set by twisting the top. Towards hard - more spring force, softer - less spring force. Your bov should be able to stay shut at idle after going off. If it doesnt, its a major vacume leak and it could lead to idle problems etc. IF you cant seem to get a good adjustment - the spring is probabably worn out and you should buy one from turbosmart.

Sorry forgot to mention, a higher spring force than required to keep it closed at idle, will enable the bov to open later, so you will get the 'intercooler flutter' then the 'psssshhhhhhhhhhhhhh' noise. Ideally if you put the bov on to have any performance benefit, you want the 'psssshhhhhhh' noise to happen as soon as you let go of the throttle. Might take you a late night and 30 mins to adjust it, but its worth it Just watch your turbo - and if its glowing a little bit, take it for a long drive without boost to cool it down slowly. The worst thing you can do is give your car a thrashing, causing the turbine housing to glow red - and then 'turbo time' it by just letting it idle. Not only is the cooling system inefficient at idle - the housing will start to crack and you could be up for a few hundred for a new one along with fried turbo seals. Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

also if you have the bov set to hard it will flutter causing varying back pressure through the turbo. ....this will also cause damage. have fun adjusting it!
