Got pulled over last night on the way home form the gym, copper did a u-turn, then followed me for a K, overtaking in a 60 just to get me...
(I did my best to outrun him within the law ...
got defected for the following:
1. 18 inch furys
2. cooler as a front bar...lol
3. speakers not secured
4. 1 bald tyre
5. rip in front seat
6. the pedal in an auto where you rest your left foot has no rubber.
7. wires loose under dash, some type of stereo cable.
wont be too hard to fix hopefully....
let me off for having no front p plate...
questioned pod and cooler,
bounced my car up and down, then told me my springs werent rwc, but didnt right that down.
said the pod and cooler were'nt rwc, but didnt right that down
asked me for an engineers certificate...answer wtf, no lol...
Quote, "I'm not even bother about asking about the battery in the boot"
then "its not the cleanest engine bay i've seen" i felt like saying its no show car ****wit
and finally he said ill get a letter form the epa...
i just smiled and said "thanks mate"...THE LIFE OF VLT DRIVERS
can anyone explain the process of epa and how to clear it when i have to go there???

I love the EPA!
The EPA is in Macleod, which is next to Reservoir. They check everything on your car to do with emission laws. Which means, cooler, air box, boost control, exhaust all have to go back to stock. You'll get the notice in about 5 days, and will most likely have to take your car in around 3 weeks from today - they actually set you a time and date.
I actually couldn't make it to the time and date they specified for me. I was told my rego would be suspended, and I'll be risking a $500 fine unless I can come up with a good enough reason. The EPA are strict, so don't think you'll be able to hide anything.

Or the cop might have just meant that you would be getting an EPA notice for excessive noise (like I did many times in my SL/E) and you have to go to an exhaust joint and get an EPA test.......

well i need to put it back to stock then dont i???
dude reservoir is near thornbury...
macleod is near watsonia and and greensy mate...
so did you convert it back to standard, eg no cooler, no pod, standard airbox, set boost back to stock, and change exhaust back to stock...
i thought you could have a cooler, as long as you run a standard air box...?
do they fine you at all if you dont pass, or just say get it fixed...if you go there and pass, do they just tell ya to piss off...
also are 18's legal guys? thought it had something to do with the width of the tyre

Chaysr is right, you just take it to an exhaust place that can test for epa, when you get your letter it'll have a list of places you can take your car to and for a vl turbo it has to be under 90dB at 4200rpm. you have 13 days from the date of the notice otherwise you will be facing a $1000 fine (gone up).

thanks mate, i have taken it ok....just with cars everything is a hassle... vls especially, but i knew that when i bought one....
i got no idea about 18's, i think they are rwc as long as the width is within some sort of range or some bull****,
but to save the hassle, i got a mate whos got a walky that sits in his garage a fair bit, so ill pull his16's off and that will shut that part up.

12-12-03, 09:40 GMT+10#10 one idea, that i thought i mite share with you guys, and i know its a bit outragous, but if you've got a 10 second VL or something, buy a stock VL the same colour, and if you get canaried you take number plates off 10sec VL and put on stocker and take the stock car to EPA
coz amagine, if you took off the cooler n everything that needs to be done, and then next week you put it all back on, then the following week you get canaried again !
good luck with it all again bro

12-12-03, 09:56 GMT+10#13 just pull everything off that he mentioned. i.e. pull the cooler off and put on the stock cross -over pipe (if you don't have one swing past my joint one day and you can borrow one of mine) and put on a set of calais rims or a set of 15's of someone with good rubbers (the tires not dinga's). I don't know why he said anything about your 18's.. ring Vic roads and ask..
secure your speakers, and put on a seat cover to cover the tear in your seat.
shouldn't take you too long and then change it back when your done... easy ...

12-12-03, 10:14 GMT+10#14 hope so...
i think i might just buy the cross over pipe, standar airbox etc, just incase this continually happens, which i think it will...
but thanks on the offer Steve, may take you up on it if i cant find one...

12-12-03, 11:52 GMT+10#15 with the 18's, VIC roads says you can have wheel on that are larger than 2 inches than the stock wheels.
eg. vls came with 14' & 15' i think, so technically 17's is the largest you can go on a Vl Leagally

LOL! hahahhah alota thought went into that one 87 Devl
Why the hasstle on the 18's you ask?? I've been told that the 2" rule above standard rims applies as well. I have 16"s and the cop said "ohh your lucky" because I just fit under the law.
Bad luck man though, sounds like they went through your whole car!
grrrrrr...

12-12-03, 12:27 GMT+10#17 was pretty funny from 87 devl...
sounded good though.....yeh 17's can be on a calais, cos they came out with 15's, butt some vls ccame out stock with 14's like commodores and berlinas...
hence the reason why your lucky....14 to 16...
will be sweet, just rang vic roads, just got to supply rwc...
will put seat covers, bolt down the spaeker with a mail gun if i have to, get some cable ties, borrow mates rims...
sweet.
just gotta get past the epa...

Walky's and Directors came with 16"'s so therefore you can go to 18" no probs.. technically..
Bassically i think you got done by a cop that was on a power trip that doesn't know much about cars..

The way i understood it is for the 'model' vehicle.. it's like a bodykit.. leagally you can put a kit on it if it came out on that model car (i've been hassled about my director flare guards a fair bit and done a bit of research at vicroads), also motors.. you don't need an engineers certificate if you put a 304 into a vl or a rb30ET into a rb30 N/A.. but if you wanted to put in a 454 you would need a engineers certificate....
Call Vic roads.. it'll cost you 30c and they are generally very helpfull...
