I have to remove a complete dash from a VL SL this weekend..........How hard hard is this with out breaking plastic parts??
One big thing to think about when replying is I have a very very short fuse.....hence the reason I have to remove the dash , its to replace the dash in my VLT that I tore out (with out any tools)......
Any help would be great and save me more money in the long run.....

My tips: Pay good attention as to what order you took it out (so you know how it goes back in)
And - Don't be stressed when you've got a heap of bolts/screws leftover when everything is back together.

I've done this 3 times and i cant say i found it very hard at all, everything comes off in order u dont have any problems. Things like the side air vents need to come out before u can take the top speaker grilles out, the aircon control unit is helf in with a screw at the top, and if it needs to come out completely u'll need to disconnect the cable from behind it which goes to one of the vent controls at the back left of it. Tp take the top part of the dash off u'll have to undo all the screws from underneath it, better to leave the very top till last. There is also a 10mm nut that has to be undone at the top part of the dash (in the middle) near the windscreen. Pop the cover off it and then use tools.
Its not hard at all, just take ur time and do things in good order and u'll be sweet. If it wont come out, chances are there is still a screw or a 10mm nut holding it in place, just look around.

04-12-03, 07:50 GMT+10#12 open the glove box, and in the right corner of the glovebox will be a little flat plastic piece that sits about 1 cm inwards of the side of the glovebox. get a flat bladed screw driver and pull it inwards of the glovebox - the whole rod there will move and the glovebox will literally drop out. if you need any more help, i can prolly get a photo for you.
To make sure i did everything in order (or at least put it all back in the order it came out in) i got myself a pen and some paper and wrote down step by step what i did. also with each step, i got a sandwidch bag and put the screws, nut, bolts, clips, etc into that bag and put it aside - then i didnt have 10 million bolts at the end and SFA knowledge of which one was for what part... Really helped to get it all back together the RIGHT way the FIRST time.
Patience is a virtue with taking the dash out - as ollie said - if it doesnt come out easily, theres another bolt somewhere, just have a good look around all the part thats to come off - some bolts are nice and hidden up underneath the dash (one particular one on the drivers side is above the steering column and wiring - absolute b*tch to get to - took me a good 10 mins just to get that one f'n bolt out). Having a short temper is recipe for disaster, but keep calm, cool and collective and take it one step at a time and you should be right

05-12-03, 18:53 GMT+10#15 I did mine in a couple of hours. Didn't break any clips (guess i've just got skill )
Farily easy. Just gotta put all the screws in labelled bags so you know where it all goes when it comes time to put it bak in.
Had mine out for a month and is still only half painted...
