When i fill up my VLT, the petrol bowser clicks and stops, almost instantly a rush of petrol comes out of the tank. however the tank is only 2/3 - 3/4 full. It's done it at several petrol stations now. Any Suggestions?

mine used to do the same thing till i got all the fuel lines redone.. then i went and lost the fuel cap, and got a new one - now whenever i go to take the fuel cap off after a bit of a trip, it takes off like a rocket over the bowser (pressured tank, undo the cap - *pow*)... should really get that looked into....

so u recon getting the fuel lines redone will help? is there breather lines to help vent the gases, wouldnt these be changed first?

I just replaced all the breather hoses the i could without removing the fuel tank. They were all ****ed, broked, clogged up, etc, etc. Got some 1m of 5mm clear hose from bunnings, cost a whopping $0.78. however it didnt fix my damn problem. i filled it up, put $10 in, it when from 2/3 to 7/8, it spat petrol after 5l, and i continued to slowly add another 5L. i'm thinking that the breather hose that comes from the fuel tank may be clogged or kinked. but i cbf removing the tank today to find out. If i had of been smart i would have tried blowing air through the hoses to see if there was much restriction. I also chekced that dodgy small semi-sphere type black thing that the breather hoses go into. it appears its just like an air tank, i took it off, i could blow air though it, i shook it, and there was no rattle, seemed fine. WTF does that do anyways?

I have a genuine fuel tank breather sitting next to me so I can give you a part number (--Edited--: Hose Vent) it only costs ~$3. Good value if you are going to remove the tank or are having trouble filling it. As the genuine hose is much smaller in section than most other off-the-shelf hoses, makes installation much easier... Although I would recommend doing it with not too much fuel in the tank --Edited-- Holden supplied the wrong tank breather hose, the hose supplied was for a later model VN-VS car. The VL has a smaller hose diameter ~10mm... Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

That's just the main breather, hose with an ID ~1/2" and about 500mm long.. Comes out of the middle of the top of the tank. With mine when it was u/s the tank would only fill to ~3/4 as there is fill space above the breather.. Didn't mean for the confusion Some original photos have not been recovered yet.
