I currently have a VL Calais Turbo. At the moment I am driving 500ks plus a week for work which is costing me heaps in the old RB30et. I'm averaging about 400-450k's a tank with the aircon on. I've read a few of the forums and this seems to be quite normal.
If I could get around 600k's to a tank easily I'd be happy. This should be a possibility as my inlaws VX commodore V6 is averaging about 750k's without breaking a sweat.
Many things have popped into my head as my engines on it's way out as well (has a knock at 2500rpm). Should I do a rebuild on the motor and port the head out, swap do an RB25DET, other engine management or hiclone (do they actually work). I don't want to convert to a V6.
If I was to swap to an RB25DET who in QLD does these conversions and how much does it cost (motor supplied and fitted).
Cheers,
Mick
yeah I can get 500 outa my turbo if I drive sensibly...
Mostly I get 400-450.
b4 I put the turbo on I was getting 500 easily givin it heaps all over the shop!

the newer (vs on) have the ecotec motors. m8's vt exec drinks 9L per 100kms. he gets 600km+ per tank.
chris.
You could do a few fthings, what is your budget, you did not say auto or manual,
1. change the diff ratio
2. If an auto, see if you can get a t700 to fit
3. If manual drop in a nice 6 speed
I am getting about 300 to 350 for about 35 lt of fuel in mine same k's as you, The wifes VT wagon gets about 800k's to a 75lt tank.
So as you can see there are several things depending on your pockets.
The fuel tank on the VX is bigger (75-80 L I think?) compared to the 62 or so of the VL. So one "tank" isn't the same as another.
Some original photos have not been recovered yet.
Platinum is right, check the fuel tank sizes.
Your average of 450km per tank is preety reasonable, though...
If the O2 sensor is the original replace it, too.
Over time they wear out and don't crosscount as quick as they should, hence they are really slow to sample the mixture and maintain a stoich ratio.
On one RB30 after changing the O2 sensor to a new unit, highway driving changed from an average of 11L/100 to 9L/100. So definately something to consider.
The other way around it is to fit the BT1 83L fuel tank, straight bolt up.
Burn a hole in your pocket, when you fill it though.

yer outa my old VL i got 700kays of 60bux in the tank wen it was a n/a 6 it was a one off thing it never happened again for sum reason!!! in my turbo i usually get 450-500 of sum city driving but mostly highway and thats driving like a human being!!! the least i have ever gotten would be 35kays off half a tank, i wonder y!!!
I might try changing that o2 sensor. I remember changing it on my NA VL and it made a bit of a difference. Has anybody chucked one of those Hiclones in? Do they make any difference or are they just a waste of cash?

it's cos ure drive the car how it's made to be driven, if someone is gettin 600kms off a tank they should ditch a vlt and get a lancer.
