Hey guys,
need some help.. deciding whether or not to convert to an RB25 head instead of keeping the single cam. not sure if i'm going to go that path or not. (means i would have to sell the plenum, head, manifold, cooler piping, dump pipe etc.)
Anyway Does anyone have anypics of vls with the twin cam head (not RB20), and with with a top mount manifold would be good too.
has anyone on here done it already??
thanks heaps
Matt

Don't have any photos, but from what ive read on the streetcommodores forum.. how your engine bay has been totally smoothed over etc and all your gonna see is the motor, id keep it single cam! looks better IMO.. but just the same - as you know you'll make heaps more power with the twin cam!
so i guess its-
Looks : single cam
Power: Twincam

keep single cam br0
spend the money for the conversion on a turbo or fuel system - cooler etc instead,
vl's are running 8's with single cam bro

Turbo..done
http://www.streetcommodores.com.au/f...=&postid=89759 (http://www.streetcommodores.com.au/forum/attachment.php?s=&postid=89759)
same as fuel.
plenum: micks metalcraft (my 1st one was one of the first made)
cooler: same as above MC
head: rooted..... got a brand new head
bottom end: being rebuilt as we speak (nice and tuff )
cams, injectors, vernier gear.. ive done/ got it all.................. but
unfortunately the boys running 8's have spent MEGA bucks on their heads.. some i hear are filled and freshly ported etc to new flow specs. plus have no water jackets etc
maybe i should try and be one the first to make an engine bay look spotless with the RB25 head
but id still love to see some shots!!!!

mate i have some infor you might want on the twin cammer ........ i have made a conversion on my car that looks the **** . its a 3ltr with a gt40 garret 700hp turbo , 45mm gate . coustom extracters , coustom inlet manifold that comes out of the bonnet , alot of crome and heaps of pollishing . im hoping for about 330_+ kwts at the wheels when finnally tuned . its and auto running trimatic from hugo race glides . the car has been tuned 9on the street for 22 pounds with a smaller turbo and a stock na auto , the thing ripped then with a **** auto and small turbo but cause a dyno wasnt used no figures to show ya . the best part about my car is the sound it makes on boost ........ sounds very different and tuff as. the car has recently been in street commodores and if you want to see some pix of my engine bay now let me know and ill work out a way to send em .....
give me a buzz on [phone removed] if you need parts or advice on what to do

Custom extracters , custom inlet manifold that comes out of the bonnet , alot of chrome and heaps of polishing. I'm hoping for about 330+ kwts at the wheels when finnaly tuned. It's an auto running a trimatic from Hugo race glides. The car has been tuned on the street for 22 pounds with a smaller turbo and a stock na auto box, the thing ripped then with a **** auto and small turbo but cause a dyno wasn't used no figures to show ya. The best part about my car is the sound it makes on boost ........ sounds very different and tuff as. These pics were taken over the weekend. As Pete would tell you, it is still far from finished, but realistically only waiting on the dump pipe being remade, and the box to arrive before he does the final tune.
Or you could check out on the calaisturbo website under JET-88C.....

20-11-03, 21:56 GMT+10#12 Ide go Twin Cam provided that you have the money and the other nessasary go fast bits. For a streeter, cant go past twin cam, it has everything better than a SOHC, regardless what times sohc heads are running. Latest record is a methanol twincam rb30 isnt it? somewhere in the 8s as well?
For drivability, spoolup time and customization/tunability, cant go past the twin cam.... want a bit of boost earlier on that monster turbo? retard the exhaust cam timing a fraction and you will get quicker spool. Try doing that on a SOHC, and you will be grinding cams for days trying to find the best combo.
If i was going all out, ide go Twin Cam anyday, but remember that you basically have a stroked r33 motor, you cant really call it a VL motor anymore, as the head is the business/power end of the engine - the bottom end is just strong enough to cop the abuse, in my opinion.
Skylines Australia has a PDF/Bible on Twin Camming the RB30 motor. www.skylinesaustralia.com (http://www.skylinesaustralia.com)

21-11-03, 18:07 GMT+10#16 THANX GUYS..... yeah its taken me a while to get it to that state and alot of money and trial and error . but it all pays of in the end .
the plenum was bought wit the motor and has since been modified to suit a bigger throtle. i dont know where it was made but it looks and works really well. the turbo is a garret ball bearing gt40 . with a .70 front cover and a 1.06 rear housing rated at 700hp. the exhaust and fuel setup was done at rmk performance in sydney. the rest was all me . im jus waiting on a the box to arrive from mel so i can get it tuned to the new setup. ill keep you all posted on how she goes
i wont stop till this car is running in the 10s
