Hey guys, just wondering, How hard would it be to convert a VK6 to an RB30ET? would would I have to change? Anyone performed the conversion or know of anyone that has? Any idea of the cost? Just really curious because atm i have a VK berlina with an absolutely immaculate body and interior and I am not real fond of the EFI 202 lol. I just think it would be something different, even if it has been done before (and I'm sure it has). Anyways, thanks for any replys coz I'm real interested in finding out whats involved. thanks guys -Braddo Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

A mate of mine blew up his VK about a year ago and wanted to get a RB30 thrown in there. He talked to a mechanic and apparently they have different engine mounts. Then you would need to put in a new Trany, and a VL Trany wont fit for some reason. I recon you would be better off buying a VL and throwing your interior over into it from you VK.

hmmmm ok.... all my dreams are shattered now :P. I suppose, a Vk with a RB30ET probably would be kinda stupid, I reckon the VK body is more tough and mean looking and meant for probably a v8 now that i think of it haha thanks guys.

ok! new dream, how about a 350 small block in a vl with turbo400,3000stall and 4.11 ratio???? would anyone reccomend a 350 in a vl? would it just be the same as bolting in a 308? would it bolt str8 in?

As far as I know all you need is a VL crossmember and the engine will bolt straight in. You will also need the VL pedal box and clutch master cylinder if you are putting a manual gearbox in. The gearbox crossmember will need to be modified to suit the new gearbox and maybe a custom tailshaft made up. I have a mate who put an RB20det into his VH and these are most of the things which needed doing.

vl motors go into vk piece of piss just put the vl k-frame in and the vl gearbox mounts everything you need , same as vn v6 engine unbolt the k-frame from a vn and roll it under the vk same dimensions and vn fuel tank fits vk crossmember has same bolt up pattern to the gearbox as the vn just get the wiring sorted .

There was even a VH SL/E Commodore in Melbourne with a RB30et, was up for sale too. Can be done buy a cheap VL wreck and rip all the driveline components out it should all bolt in, with maybe a few fabrications and modifications to be made. But it would be easier if you want a turbo car to buy one in the first place. Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

thanks alot for the research work dude! appreciate it. By the way, would this be a reasonable combo or would I get better performance from the VL 5L? which would be easier/cheaper to mod for maximum performance?

I don't think you need to have a cat convertor because the car is pre 1986 but don't quote me on that.

doesnt the car have to comply with the emission laws from the year the engine was produced?

comes down to the block number for emissions laws. so you would have to comply with the epa laws on a rb30. regards mark
