I'm thinking of getting an amp, the Jaycar/Response AA0435 4 x 100WRMS for $450. Or at the price should I just go with a name brand? I'll be running it 100Wx2 front, bridged 300Wx1 for the sub. For the sub, would the Jaycar 15" double mag CS2345 be a good buy for $100?
Any thoughts/advice is appreciated.
also does anyone have experience with the Jaycar 500WRMS 5ch JA0436 amp? Can you tell me if it's a good amp for sound quality.

Dont u already have that sub and amp?
i dont have the fondest opinions of Jaycar myself, but if you dont care about car audio that much, then get it,

do you have a better suggestion (brands/models)?

that jaycar is pretty good, i've only heard good things about it if you're on a budget. (which most people are) also i wouldn't get that sub, spend a little more and get the next line up or preferable skip the jaycar subs altogether. their amps are good, but i don't like the subs. also, get a good 12 instead of a lower quality 15. i have an earthquake DBx 12 inch powered by a Coustic amp, putting 240WRMS into it, and it's really really really heaps powerful enough to shake the crap out of my VL. also it has much tighter bass response than a 15 of the same series.

The jaycar amp will do for a small budget.
But a JL Audio 15 sub should do the trick sub wise,

If your on a budget the Boss Audio amps are the way to go. 1000W max 4 channel bridgeable amp for around 350 at brisbane car sound. These are rated the best cheap amp by hot 4s magazine. Thats what the guy at the shop told me anyway.

05-12-03, 21:07 GMT+10#11 Jaycar are rubbish, plenty of punch but sound reproduction is rubbish. Spend the bucks on quality like Alpine or Rockford, 1000 times better and will last a lifetime. Buy cheap, buy twice......

You can get them even cheaper off e-bay. I had 1 in my car, but it blew up...I have bought a JBL to replace it......however for the price (and the fact i dont have to fu*k around getting it pro fitted) I'm thinkin the BOSS would be better as it will fit back where the old one was......
Looks great when you open the boot and have that chrome hitting you in the face.....

28-12-03, 17:28 GMT+10#13 some jaycar amps have a habit of catching on fire (not sure what models but), and boss audio isnt realy worth touching, save up and get something a little better, it will pay off in the end,
rockford fosgate make good powerful amps, if you can get a 801X for a good price, id recommend running a 33 V2 poly glass Focal sub, that should be loud and tight.. probably a bit over budget tho..

02-01-04, 19:56 GMT+10#16 best thing to do would be to wait and save some more ,then buy some quality gear, the motto is: buy once, buy right.
depending on what kind of tastes you have, choice is unlimited, if you want high quality sound, then your best to save, or if you just want something to listen to when driving then by all means go cheap.

no point pimpin it out with quality sound so it can just be advertised to get jacked...
i made this mistake, now i rebuild.

12-01-04, 18:49 GMT+10#18 i had some cheap a**, no-name amp rated at 300w x 2 running my old fusion sub in bridged mode, must i say, it sounded fantastic. an amp isnt that much, the sub is the main point of focus, as u can always upgrade ur amp later. the only reason i upgraded my amp to a fusion was because i didnt have a tiny budget anymore and i wanted an amp that looks good in my custom boot. if i made the boot for the old amp, upgrading to the new one, wouldv been hell making fittings etc....
my advice, cheap amp......great sub....4 now....wen u get the cash, then go shop for an amp.

perhaps not such a great idea there. Cheap amps will usually have less power. less power = more chance of you clipping the amp by trying to get too much out of it, and destroying your sub. a poor quality amp can make a great sub, sound terrible. but then again a great amp cant really make a terrible sub sound better.
i have to agree with NZCalais though. If you really want it to sound the best, save your money and buy some good reputable gear. Of course installation is everything. poor installation can make the greatest components sound bad.

mate, dont do that...your best bet would be to buy a QUALITY amp and a mid-range sub [if budget is restricted] otherwise just hold off as i said.
in the long run you'll get more life and happy listening out of a $600 amp like say a Caliber, rather than going out and buying a cheaper package deal.
Quality is the key.
