Put it this way..... There are alot of after market ECU's around and you could argue forever and a day as to which is the best. There are some you can count out pretty much strait away, but still will leave you with a few to choose from. From my experience, I have seen alot of tuning of different ECU's to different motors. I would be spending either the same time, or if not more, searching for a place or person that know how to tune them properly!!! I could never say this enough!!! I have seen MoTech's installed but tuned like absolute crap. That doesn't mean that MoTech is crap though. Before spending the big bucks on an after market ECU, ring the Australian distributor, not the installer for the product (MoTech, Haltech, Autronic etc) and ask them who their preferred installer is, not just thier listed installers but their preferred installer is for your application. Also, talk to a technical guy there, not just the bimbo on the switchboard. I guarantee that this will save you alot of money and heartache in the long run!

well said. Autronic would have to be the best though.

Exactly! Autronic being one of the most popular and all, are installed and tuned by more then others and there for will be more out there that can do it properly! Still worth giving Autronic a call and asking who out of their installers do it best in your area! Oh, and I forgot! The same old rule applies "You get what you pay for..."

That's good to hear that they like Microwreck in Adelaide, coz that's what I have. Hopefully I'll be able to find a worthy workshop, they are hard to find, any recomendations for an Adelaide workshop?

well said vlt06. it all comes down to the tuner. i have got Autronic SMC. it was only marginally more expensive than the microtech or wolf (but it came with autotune and boost control). and when you look at the history of the horsepower heroes winners, they all seem to run autronic (with the exeption of eddy). and look at all the really quick vlt's - autronic or motec! just depends what your aims are punani mark

Don't pay bl0ody hundreds for the install. DIY - it's kind of fun and you will learn heaps about your car. I've got an autronic SMC with boost control, but no autotune or antilag.

vlc_31t: and look at all the really quick vlt's - autronic or motec! they run Autronic SM2 and Motec M800 they use these ECUS because they can afford to, and the build those cars because they can afford to, when it comes down to raceing, u can run fast times on most of the Aftermarket ECUs, it all comes down to the Tuner if anyone is after a cheaper ECU, that has just been released, and is deffinatelly going to give the Other ECUs on the Market a big run, id be looking into the new EMS 8860, im getting one myself, absolutely wicked ECU, traction control, launch control, boost, 5 bar map sensor, can hook upto factory sensors, easy to use. kicks ass over microtech and link, i use to run microtech on my vl, good ecu, over fuels way to much, would only ever use it again, on a track only car, no good for street driveing with fuel consumption. if u can afford an ecu Autronic SM2 and Motec M800 are the most commonly used for massive performance and reliability, i was going to get Autronic SM2, but EMS 8860 has really caught my eye, very impressed, at the moment ive sused out for tuners / suppliers in melb, and its suppost to extremely user friendly, and very easy to tune

http://users.bigpond.net.au/r33/ecu.jpg more info on ECUs comparrisons i know by now your all thinking what is this EMS 8860 check it out below http://www.fuel-injection.com/prod01.htm "it costs money to go fast, how fast do you want to go???? :P" (any modification costs money is the point of the saying) prices on a particular part dont neccesarily mean its greater than a part twice its price, as many will tell u

as i stated b4 - it all come down to the tuner! but if you want big numbers you have to pay the $$. wether it be on management, turbos, coolers, etc. more hp = more $$ anyone involved in motorsports will tell you that mark Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

Just a quick question, I *think* most aftermarket ECU's don't diagnose faults (sensors etc) like the original ecu. So how do you diagnose a fault with your car as a lot of sensors give the same symtoms. Cheers!!
