Iv'e built more motor's then i could acount for, and by no means would i bother paying $59+ for a original head gaskit, when i could buy a quality aftermarket one from $29 that have a 3yr 100,000km warranty. And the graphite composite gaskit costs a few pennies more, with the same warranty. fudge i can get VRS kits for $69 For sale reco rb30et short motors $1500 inc hone, ACL pistons (not drop forged), rings, bearings, welsh plugs etc Or i could use OEM stuff and charge $3k.......but who would buy it?

I think nissan head gaskets are a proven 'reliable' head gasket that can take the boost. As proven by ALOT of members on the forums here, they can cop upto 25psi and maybe more without failure of blowing out or having sealing problems like some others that people have found (eg. probably the 'quality' ones ur referring to as well as copper head gaskets) Im sure if u were building 'quality engines' that could withstand a 'quality' pounding, you'd choose a 'quality' head gasket aswell. I dunno wat ur point is here ? If u want to build cheap motors for 'non turbo' vl's go ahead and use ur ezifit or wateva **** ass headgaskets. Ollie Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

They ONLY real time as far as I'm concerned that you'd use anything other than a genuine gasket is when you have an o-ringged block. This is only because the fibre gaskets can't be manipulated as the copper gaskets can be. Upon saying this, you MUST use a sealant like ThreeBond or Hylomar when using copper gaskets...pain in the arse.

massive: my block is o-ringed and i dont have any probs with the standard gasket.. thats the first ive heard about needing a copper gasket with o-rings? the o-rings seem to bite into the standard gasket fine?

Degree: My bad, my engine builder told me that it's strongly recommended to use a copper gasket with an o-ringged block, hence I'm using a copper gasket with heaps of threebond part no #1211 sealer. I was under the impression that the wire o-rings would cut through the fibre gaskets rather than pushing it up into the receiver groove in the head. If I ever have any problems with the copper gasket, I'll definitely go the standard Nissan item!

nah its recommended to have o rings when u use copper gasket (clamping pressure on the metal), but u don't need a copper gasket when u have o rings. both sound the same but have different meanings.

massive - you shouldnt use to much threebond as it can block the water/ oil galleries. a little bit goes a very long way. also, use the grey stuff, not the white stuff, i'm not sure of the part # as it is in perth, and i am in kal. copper head gasket with o rings is the situation if done properly, ie. anealed with threebond at eash application. i would imagine that the fibre gaskets would get cut by the o rings??? and them blow/ leak?? regards mark

15years ago , nissan spent millions upon millions of dollars and time , in researching and creating the utmost reliable and quality head gasket to use , generic companies like acl , spend minimal amounts of time and money (in comparison) therefore produce a slightly less suited gasket. same goes for computers , nissan again spent squillions on development of the stock ecu , and in comparison to say an autronic , sure the autronic is much more powerful and has basically infinite tuning possibilities , it will never be as smooth at running the engine as what nissans computer did years ago. there is a comprimise for every situation though.

I shouldn't have said "heaps" of threebond, there was enough to seal but not squash into the oil and water galleries.

hylomar should be sprayed on standard gaskets aswell , not just copper ones

I use ACL and on VL's that have Eatin More Supra's, then you car ever will, for that kinda money. The same car mind you was also tested at 30psi, but since to3's don't have ball bearings, i put it back to a normal non-intercooled 12sec VL level. i build quality...it's my job. My point is, im sick of people thinking that you can't go past a nissan gaskit. I sold a short motor, to a customer a few weeks back that was bored 40thou, new forg'd pistons, gapless rings etc, and he refussed my ACL gaskit. When it was just what it needed. People come to me wanting affordable power upgrades, not bullsh$t advice. And i have a original series 1 n/a VL in my driveway with a turbo block.......eat sh$t.

The old rule "you get what you pay for" applies here. A MonoTorque gasket WILL fail in situations where a genuine Nissan gasket will live. I've proven it before, and so have many engine builders experienced in the RB30. I had a copper head gasket, with o-ring, receiver groove in the head, ARP 1/2" stud kit, anealed gasket with threebind white - and after sustained testing at 27PSI boost, it sprung a leak on the dyno. I've since changed the copper gasket for a genuine Nissan one, and not had an ounce of trouble. I'd not use an aftermaket gasket on an RB30 again, unless it was just an atmo one.

Bottom line is that you would be very narrow minded to deny past history and trial and error. It is very common knowledge that the Nissan gaskets are with out a doubt a superior gasket to 99% on the market. Mate of mine who is a renowned engine builder builds 500hp+ all day, every day - also spent the past 5 years or so working on Althelwoods top fuller would bet his reputation on it. Maybe when you engine building becomes renowned, then maybe people will start taking notice of you?

Quote: For sale reco rb30et short motors $1500 inc hone, ACL pistons (not drop forged), rings, bearings, welsh plugs etc I paid more than that in machining alone! It sounds to me like your just a backyard re-ring and hone expert (Spraycan rebuild) . It certainly says quality when you start getting bitchy about a $59 part, id rather build an engine that had quality parts in it that a head gasket made in tiawan for 5 cents. This post is both stupid and pointless, are you even a licenced mechanic and offering warranty? Topic locked.
