this might sound dumb but can anyone tell me if you can get your p's before your 18 in victoria. I need a license to get an electrician apprenticeship because the job involves changing jobsites regularly, and all the places ive rang up need me to have my own transprt.
ive heard that you can get them only to drive during work hours but im not really sure could sumone tell me if this is true or not and how i go about getting it.
thanx for your help
i've never heard about having a probationary license for work use only.. maybe there is such a thing.. i wish i had of known about it when i started lol...
Umm.. if your really keen, i suppose you could go to SA or nsw and get a p plate license there.. you can get them when your 17 cant you? in one of those states? i cant remember.
I think it might be SA.. and their p plates are green?
Anyway, i dont think you want to goto THAT much trouble, but yeah.. other than that, you'll have to wait until your 18 like everyone else in VIC.

you can get a motobike licence a little earlier in VIC i think..
As for getting one from another state you gotta be living their for like 6months first.
Gota love SA, can get p's at 16 and a half here.
We dont have the green P plates, but i have seen them in other states...

I think the 18 year old rule is great for victorians and driving in general.
Ide be doing a lot of stupid **** at 16.5 if i had my Ps and i dont think that the majority of people at that age cant handle the responsibility of driving a vehicle on public roads.
I did hear of a former friend's friend going interstate to get his licence and driving around victoria.
Ring vicroads tomorrow morning.
How old are you?
Mikki, Not a chance in hell. You cannot even change a QLD probationary licence over until you are 18 yo (they get theirs when they are 17). Hell will freeze over before they give you your P's before your are 18.
However, you can get your L's for your motorbike licence at 17yrs 9months. Otherwise get the pushbike out
I believe the way the victorian system works is good. Get your L's at 16, P's at 18. With usually approx 2yrs driving experience. However in QLD (the not so smart state) You get ur L's at 16.5 and P's at 17. This allows 6 months of driving experience. Dont they recommend 120hrs of total learning experience? How many learners would rack up 120hrs in 6months? Not many. I know my GF had about 1 week.. that's right LESS THAN 10hrs experience, and she passed her licence test..... she so should not have. and she wonders WHY i wouldnt let her have my car when she got her licence!!!!!
When i lived in QLD, i'd often get in arguements with people because they thought that victorian drivers are ****, their supporting evidence was that victoria's road toll was slightly higher.... however they always seemed to forget that Victoria has 3 times the population of Queensland.

my friends brother lives interstate. he got his p's there and uses them here in VIC, all documents and sh!t get sent to his bro's and he send em down here. The kid is still 17 and has been pulled over many times and everything is cool.
