Hi Anybody know how to install cruise control in a vl - sl commodore, and how much it would cost for the main components?

Too much effort, i'm told u have to change the entire loom. Goto Kmart, AutObarn, SuperCheap, where ever, and buy aftermarket cruise control. Fit it yourself it has a video to show u step by step instructions. it will take a few hours to install. Works like a dream. Cost you in total about RRP $200. however i got my unit on special for $150.

you *CAN* do it, from my research .. I cant really afford the parts at the moment. The cruise harness is seperate from the body harness, and only connects up to it at the top, just below the upper harness, so it can interface with the dash panel, and speedo signal. You need 2 boxes, one is part of the upper calais harness, the dash switch panel, wiring loom for the cruise, vacuum servo unit, cruise cable and mounting brackets, and 2 brake switches (one vacuum and one electric), and a clutch switch if its a manual. Hook it all up and off you go .. Biggest problem is probably aquiring all the bits Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

It is actually part of it? damn .. thats a pain .. I was sure I'd read somewhere you could do it seperately .. unless that person had just spliced one into his existing .. Hrm .. So would you say it was worth doing? or in retrospect, would you have rathered gone aftermarket?

Wonder if you could get aftermarket and wire it to the CC dash panel Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

It's been a few years since this thread has been mined so hopefully there is some further information out there. I'm looking to install an aftermarket cruise control kit to my 87 VL SL Auto. I will only do it if I can have it operate through the factory cruise control panel. Has anyone successfully fitted cruise to a non-cruise VL and gotten it to work through the factory cruise control switch/panel? If so which kit did you use and who installed it? Thanking you.
