I just got a freaking CANARY, because my car is apparently too low.
I’m just wondering how they check to see if the car is a legal height or not. Has anyone got first hand experience of how they test the car?
Is there any specific criteria needed…(ie. Tyre Pressures, Amount of petrol in tank, people in car etc,)
Cos,
If I have a full tank of fuel and tyres at 22psi (pressure which I use) the lowest point of the car is 98mm (borderline).
If I have less than a quarter of fuel left, and tyres at 40psi, the lowest point is 121mm. (But if I have fat pricks in the back than obviously it will go below 100mm)
Anyone??
PS. Moderators, please don’t lock this thread. The search page doesn’t work on my PC.
surely someone can give u some slightly higher rear springs to wak in for the day yeah ?
only take ya 10 minutes to put em in.. not super high but high enough to be certain its legal and not look too out of proportion with the front of the car.
canaries are GAY !
piece of piss.. those rta blokes are all slack *******s... all they do is slide a thing under your car a couple of times (like a trolley jack) which is 100mm high... if it hits your in ****.
when the test it the car is empty i.e no passengers. Theirs no rule for fuel or tire pressure. So when you go to get it checked pump up your tires and have a empty tank. Or just change the springs when you get home before the test like everyone else does.

I had to do that when I got a canary last summer. Went in to Vicroads and all they did was check the height of the car with this stick thing and a coke can and then said it now passed.

22psi? sloppy jalopy handling I would imagine, do you do that because Brocky used to run that pressure in his signature series VL's?
Before I go on and on, just pump the buggers up, no fuel...ahhh it's all been said before.
the legal ride height is 100mm from the lowest point of your car eg.. the exhaust!
If you get it past a roadworthy cert then you shouldnt have any problems with vicroads, it's only when you get a minor cannery the vicroad jerks have to inspect it, thats when you fill them full of ****!
is the hight only taken of major parts of your car eg. exhaust or chassis?
because my car at the moment is 100mm of the ground from the exhaust, but my bodikit is about 35-45mm off the ground, does that count as being "un-roadworthy" ???

yep unroadoworthy, the lowest point has to be 100mm.

I only put 22psi in the rears. In the front I usually put 32psi.
BTW...I went to get an RWC certificate yesterday. I went in with 50psi in all tyres and barely any fuel. The car's height was fine, but the prick was a little suspicious with my springs. (Amount of travel in the rear springs???) but it passed.
...Now of to VicRoads.

My cousin told me the same thing about this "large guy", apparently his an easy going bloke...
When i went with a mate to get a canary off, we took it to vic roads dandenong, and yeah as mentioned they just stuck a stick under the car and made sure it didn't touch. We had very little fuel in the car and nobody had to sit in it.
If your worried about it being to low in the rear, i got some spare uncut standard springs you can borrow for the day. I have kept them for such reasons.
Last time I got one the first guy said we need a full car of people, had no one with me, and thing still hit which I knew it would. Went back 2 hours later and got some slack **** who didn't even come out and have a look.
All depends on the person behind the counter.
True I say, it's just the luck of the draw.
Next please...... next...... number 46 are you there... (Guy behind the counter at Vicroads)
