what turbo came on the R32 RB20det silvertop motor from the factory? was it a t28.. t25... t3 ... i beleive its a ceramic type, so im guessing t28? reason is, i have a silvertop that i bought complete without a turbo. I also have a complete redtop rb20det motor with a turbo. is the turbo from the redtop the same as the silvertop? if not, is it worthwhile putting the redtop turbo onto the silvertop? also, if i decided to go something a little larger or hiflow etc, whats probably the best choice to go for, without planning on modifying anything major, and would i need it tuned for a different turbo from stock. thanks for any replies, but just starting out with this stuff, and dont want to go spending money unnecessarily due to noobness. ta

it was a Garret T3 ball bearing type turbo. have no idea about the turbos on the red tops and silver tops. might be best if you asked on a skyline forum ......

T3 style turbo on R32, ceramic wheels, ballbearing core, slightly smaller than factory RB30ET turbo. Will push up to about 160rwkw on RB20DET. The redtop had a similar turbo but with an older design compressor and exhaust wheel, its not ballbearing though, so it isn't very effecient at all, atleast not as a replacement or upgrade to RB20DET or any motor to be honest. So either get a standard replacement turbo for it, or possibly get an RB25 turbo which will give alot more power potential without more much more lag and is basically a straight bolt on. Mick ------------------ EDIT Better fix typo's i guess.

Nope its a T3 style turbo too, the T28 and T25 are much smaller turbo's, too small for your application. Atleast in Single form anyway... I suggest a reading of skylinesdownunder.com forums, lots of useful information there for you. Mick

yeh vg30det (300zx) turbo is t3, bolts on as a good upgradefor the rb20det, if i was you i would puy an rb25det turbo, bolts on and more top end. just dont boost the rb20/25 turbos over 12-13psi as you will lose the ceramic exaust wheel and they are useless. Evan

do you need to modify the lines for a 300zx t3 turbo to fit the rb20det?

If you put the RB25 turbo on the RB20 you can run 14psi no problems it comes on about 300rpm later i think from memory and holds right to redline. Much better than the RB20 turbo which dies out up top. dont try 14psi with the RB25 though. It'll blow.
