I was talking with my mechanic today, and he said he has a Skyline Silloquete GTR cam that he can throw in my head whilst he has it off the block. Apparently they give and N/A approx 10 - 15% more power?
Has anyone ever done this mod? apparently "these cams are as rare as rocking horse ****" to quote the mechanic.
Just wanna get some opinions on it.
Thanks guys

Well u cud put it in but u'd need ur computer to be done as well. The cam he is talking about is out of a sillouete gts. they came from the factory with 130+kw depending on if it was a series 1 or 2. and u'd need extractors to get the most out of the cam.

If i got a chipped VL ECU from ebay that's set up for cam and extractors, would that be ok? Or would i specifically need the GTS ECU?
I'm pretty sure it's a series 1, because he said the series two u gotta do a heap of head work as well.
I have extractors already.

since different cams need diffenent amounts of fuel and ignition maps u'd have to get a chip made up to suit this cam

if its a series 1 itll work no prob, series 2 might work, there r some cars with gtsII cam's on stock rb30 ecu i believe

You can run the cam with any ECU,
but
If you want maximum performance and drivability from it you would need an ECU that had fuel and ignition maps to suit the GTS grind cam.

Ok i gota price,
To put cam kit (cam seal, crank seal, tensioner and belt) change over GTS1 Cam + Dyno = $1000.
Sounds expensive to me, what you guys think?

He also said the last time he did this modification without changing the ECU he got and increase of 30rwhp. With chip i may get 40hp so that works out approx 30rwkw. My car at current has 96rwkw, so that's not a bad increase. The next thing i'll do is a manual conversion, with turbo gearbox. That will make it go

Skyline Silloquete GTR cam
- no such thing... maybe GTS
Considering there are 200 GTS1 and 200 GTS2 engines your changes of finding a genuine one are RARE. I know cos I have a GTS 1 engine (check engine # with Nissan) which goes a bit better than my old stock RB30E
This is the link you wanna look at

See the 'GTS 1 technical bulletin'
Ask your mechanic which SVD is was from and if from SVD032 onwards, it will be identifiable by a V on the end of the camshaft as stated in the bulletin. We have a list of known GTS numbers at www.r31skylineclub.com (http://www.r31skylineclub.com)
Original GTS cams came from Wade Camshafts in Vic rather than being reground from stock cams like some other companies do for about $150. The lifters will need to be reground/changed
I currently run a HP3 image in my ECU and yes it does make a difference. The cam grinds for the GTS 2 have a Newtronics Intercetor between the ECU and the engine. These make the top end run a bit better but a HP3 chip should fix that but will still run without the chip (its been tried). PM me if you want to do something similar with the ECU

27-08-03, 15:54 GMT+10#10 Yeah it was my mistake it was from a GTS 1 cam. He did mention something about Wade Cams, he wanted the part change over so it could be sent off for to be reground. He said he hasnt done one in about 10 yrs, but the one he did went like **** out of a shotgun.
What about price, does it seem too expensive?
Thanks

Couple of questions:
1. does Wade still supply them? Does anyone else regrind cams to that spec?
2. I've just inspected and de-gunked the lifters in my RB30 and the tops looks flat as pancakes and are almost unmarked. Why do they need to be reground? I can understand it with big pushrod V8s where the drivetrain flexibility and inertia and hence wear on the lifters and cam is much greater, but in an OHC 3 litre?
