I have a Limited Edition VL (Number 47 of 200 - even have the little medallion too) which the battery keeps going flat. I don't drive it much at the moment, read couple 5 mins trips a week, so I think the reason that it may going flat ijust that it isn't being fully charged.
Here is the strange thing though, a couple times I have turned the key and the car is completely dead - no radio or anything. It has a factory installed alarm, which I came home a couple times to find it going off (think some dirty buggers were trying to break in). Recently after one of these occasions I found that the horn no longer worked (possibly they disconnected it so they wouldn't be sprung - haven't had a chance to check yet).
So what I reckon is, the alarm is going off sometimes and draining the battery (battery is fairly new and does hold a charge when driven regularly) dead. Anyone got any ideas or know how to disconnect it (it pretty useless anyway - just makes the horn and hazard lights flash)????
What is a Limited Edition VL anyway? Weirdly timed, I only just saw one today .. sitting behind it at the lights today .. white one .. looked verynice .. blacked center but taillights didnt look darkened, silver bumpers, and a "limited edition" badge where the trim level badge normally goes ..
Do they come standard with the black centers? or has it been painted? Woudlnt have thought people would want to modify a limited edition if theyr special ..
I can't quite remember all the detalils of the Special Edition, but they came with a few extras such as alarm, sports suspension, limited edition paint (mine is a shade of red which they don't do anymore), numbered badges and I would guess a few other bits and pieces.
Only numbered limited edition I know of was the Opera House limited edition.
V8s, painted white with numbered badges, even air cond was optional on them
Wasn't one of those...mine is just a six, and yes, air was an option back then and it was included .
Anyone got any idea on how to kill the alarm?
Some original photos have not been recovered yet.
my factory alarm was going of for no reason, and every so often i would find the battery dead when i went to start it, put a new battery in and all was good again, no more false alarms. The factory alarm works off voltage drop, so maybe if you have a stuffed battery it sets the alarm off? - thats what i put it down to anyway!
if you wanna turn it off, theres a key switch in the glovebox near the boot release button, you should have got a little key with your car keys that fits it, just turn it off.
Is the factory alarm module,
a cobra unit using all brown wires?
Anyone know what numbers go where(what components), being all brown doesnt' help me with the wiring diagrams either.
Want to remove the unit altogether to stop any funny **** going on with it, installing aftermarket unit/alarm from my old VL.
Just need to bridge a few wires on the factory unit so the car starts.
So if anyone knows what numbers/wires on the unit go where it will help me by saving time, otherwise i will have to probe them all with my multimeter and trace them that way.
Cheers
Mick
mine has coloured wires!, well im 99% sure, ive got most of the dash out, so i'll check for you later, but yes it is a cobra alarm.
dholwerda - must not be a factory alarm then!, unless the keyswitch has been removed or moved for some reason.
No definately a factory alarm - but obviously a different one than the one they used in the Calais. I haven't seen many Special Editions out there (I suppose there were only 200 made), it would have been nice if they used the same set up as the Calais though, would have made it easier for me...
well don't know for certain - but it was my grandfathers car to begin with - and I know for a fact that he didn't alter it in anyway, which leads me to think that as the special edition - they fitted it.
