Hi,
I have always heard that you should have a 3" exhaust from the the turbo but how do you put a 3" exhaust onto the 2 1/2" dump pipe? Also doesn't that defeat the purpose of having a 3" exhaust by having a 2 1/2" dump pipe??
Cheers!!
definately doesn't defeat the purpose . I upgraded from 2 & 1/2 to 3" and it was well worth the $$$'s.
Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

yes it certainly does , though by the same token , having a 3in off the dump is still better than having a 2.5 off the dump.
wat they do is , at the bottom of the cast dump pipe , there is a 3 stud triangular flange. the same on the exhaust system side ,where they obviously mate up against each other, they cut the flange of the system side , slightly enlarge the internal diameter of that newly cutoff flange , then weld it to the end of 3in pipe , which u use for ur new system...
but yes u are correct , the most important part of a turbo exhaust is the dump , right off the turbos exhaust housing , this is where u want it to be big , at least 3in.
the stock dump pipe can be machined out a wee bit , it is worth doin if ur on a tight budget.
how much for a new 3" dump pipe??? I am looking at upgrading my exhaust to a 3" mendrel bent. But obviosuly i wont get as much a benifit if i dont upgrade the dump pipe to 3" aswell.
bear in mind it's a bit more work to upgrade the dump than it is to just do the exhaust pipe. But this thread has me thinking i should do this too... seing as my turbo is being highflowed this week!
