I'm so SICK of f*c*ing car theives. I never EVER park my car anywhere and leave it alone, except at home. Have a two way car alarm, which is good. Anyway, I have had this idea in my head for a while, and Now might actualy try it. I'm going to get one of those FM bug things from ****y smith, and modify it so the trasmit strengh is a bit stronger (I know someone who can do this stuff) Next, hook up a tiny circiut to it, that will make it beep a tone every 2 or 3 seconds, on a known frequence on the FM band. Like 88MHZ or something, right down the end of the FM band. Put it in a box, HIDE IT really well in the car and wire it up to the cars constant power somewhere really well HIDDEN. This circiut will only draw around 0.01 amps from your car battery, it wont even feel it. Then put a sticker on your drivers door, you can make one with your inkjet printer and clear tape. Be creative and make it look really commercial looking, like "This vehicle is equipped with a location tracking device" It might look like just a warning...but then is it? IF you car is stolen. ring up all your mates, and get them to drive around town tuned into 88.0 FM turned up realy loud and when someone hears the known "beep beep!" you ring the cops!!! You have narrowed down the location of your stolen car to a limit of a kilometre or two!! Then its prob gona take some detective work and lots of keen eyes to catch the theif red handed! What do you guys think? Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

Some of those companies that sell trackers guarentee they will find your car or pay you market value, or your insurance......but most of our VL's are worth more than crappy market value anyway...

What do you guys think? Even if you got it down to one kilometre do you realise how many 1 kilometre squares there are in Sydney, Brisbane or Melbourne? And what would you tell the police when you rang them? They aren't going to do a door to door search of hundreds of homes to look for one stolen car. And all that is reliant on the battery still being connected anyway. Interesting idea but it just isn't practical

by the time you relise your car has been stolen it would proberbly have been stripped and burnt already and the battery would have been taken out and all the cops will do is go to your house and get your details and thats about it, there not gunna go looking for it, they will only tell you if they get a call or they come across it burning in the bush or out the front of someones house

Good idea.... i like it Could be worked on though, perhaps wtih a constant tone, and a wider range antenna. You might want to also have a mobile phone setup in your car with a handsfree mic, so that when you call it, you can hear the people inside etc. Many ways you can go about it, but true car tracking is the way to go these days, espeically if you got an expensive car that you want to keep for a while.

I like the idea of a GPS location silent alarm that sends a signal to your phone or computer telling you that your car is under threat. Then if it detects a gps movement it sends its location to a server which in turn logs the information just incase they drive it under a tunnel or a somewhere where there is no coverage. O Obviously you would have an external alarm opposite the system which would act as a decoy so that if that system is sabotaged then it does not effect the other silent alarm system. I was also thinking of a system where by which the car is disabled non electronically, such as through the gear box, or have the brakes locked on hard so the car cannot be moved. On top of that you could disrupt the fuel line so that if the engine starts it will only run for say 30 seconds and then shut off. Another thing would be to make the ECU flash itself so that it the engine is not startable no matter what because it more or less formats itself. Then you could just have your laptop or something re-set the chip once you get back to your car. A nice scary touch would be if you wanted to leave your system wide open... Until they get in and close the doors, then all the doors lock themselves and the thief is locked in the car. The system would ring a silent alarm which will locate your car and inform the police immediatly of the location. The system would need to be fool proof though just incase you do it to yourself! 8O

This is basicly "fox hunting" for those that dont know what is is the "fox" transmits a beep, and the "hunters" have to track him down (If you have ever seen a whole heap of cars driving round with the spinning dishes on the roof that them) I like the idea, 2 transmitters would be good, say one tranmitting 2-3Watts to give you a large area to track it in, the a smaller output transmitter at .2-.5 Watts to fine tune your tracking to a smaller area, you could even put in a 3rd transmitter that only puts out .05 Watts to only have a 50-100 meter radius to search Give it a try stimps and let us know how it works

Man what's the point, they're gunna take it anyway they can, just insure insure insure, and alarm, immobilise, kill switch, security code. I was blissfully niave when I installed my alarm on my old VL, thought, there was no way anyone would get through without me hearing it go off, how wrong I was. Still makes me mad to this day, and it's coming up on 2 years. With all my moving around I haven't been able to buy another one, life is a bitch sometimes.

If someone really wants your car, it's only a flatbed truck and a gun away. At least you would have an idea where you car would be, and the Police would have to investigate (or otherwise grab 50 of your mates armed with Petros style bats and storm the neighbourhood looking or a VLT ) Wouldn't look too good if some bloke is fiddling with a Jaycar kit and the cops or 50 bat armed loonys storm the joint Maybe have 3 transmitters, one for about 10 km (dunno how it would work...) and tuned to say 88.2, one for about 3 km on says 88.1, and a 50-100m one for say 88.0. Let us know how you go with this thing, sounds interesting. Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

A mate had QuikTrak put in his VLCT, yet he needed to with all the mods and audio crap in it. Has been knocked off twice but recovered within 2mins. The third time, it didn't even make it out of the carpark at Highpoint. Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

Give your transmitter(bug) it's own battery, on trickle charge.(Very well hidden) Get a good transmitter with a locked crystal frequency, to eliminate frequency drift. All this won't cost much so worth trying. At least if your car gets stollen then you have something to try, not just sit on your arse waiting to here that Sargent Gillroy found it in wonden valley creek. The only thing is the 1 - 2km area-that does'nt narrow it down very much. But you could hang around that area with a few mates in different cars and you might get lucky. Just dont think the cops are going to do anything, you would have to see it with your own eyes before the cops could or would make a move.

If you ever park your VL at the shops or something, just take off a couple of spark plug leads or something. Also, make sure you don't leave any valuables in the car, especially on the front seat where they can be easily seen. Protecting your car from actually being stolen is easy, protecting it from people breaking into it is another situation all together.

Yup, i agree with 351. Its easy to immobilize your car secretly so the theif has no idea whats been done to it so he can get it started, but stopping them get into your car? thats different. There are so many ways to do anti theft its really up to your imagination. Or even booby trap it! hehe One thing you can do is put in a seperate remote UHF switch (like a normal car alarm) and have it cut the Crank angle sensor wires. No amount of cranking will ever start that. Or cut your fuel pump wires. or anthing really that the engine needs to run. Or a ignition killer set to 2 seconds! Watch a theif try to get away in a car that starts, he takes off, it stalls, he starts it, he gets moving agian, stalls.....very noticable in a car park!! Or a latched relay and a very loud siren on a seperate battery!!! Or a latched relay and a smoke machine!!!! imagine a theif breaking into your car and before he can try to fudge the ignition to start it and drive it away, massive clouds of smoke billow out of the car and grab EVERYONES attention!!! In england someone invented this with purple smoke....that comes out of the exhaust! LOL I havnt actualy put my FM bug idea into practice yet, I have a very good alarm fitted to my pride and joy, with double immobilizer. The only way they can get my car is with a tow truck and a gun. With a PC on board, its really up to your own imagination what you can do. A quite PC running with a webcam inside the car and a Wireless network card? Car gets nicked. Call all your mates, grab laptops with wireless card and go "fox hunting" hehehe My point is, if you put your mind to it, there are thousands of way you can make you car a much worse target than the next car, and just might catch the ******* on film too:P Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

OH! heres a better idea! Pretty soon the Brismesh network is gonna be big enough that you will be able to get wireless support almost everywhere in the outer CBD area, and have the webcam hidden somewhere that can see the drivers face. Car got stolen? look check your email! theres the tossa's face right there in your inbox!!! LOL!

my mate just unplugs his computer.. i can just remove my chip out of my computer if i leave it in one place for a while.. even if someone has another chip for a 5L, there is still the 5 other immobilisers, the alarm, door locks, and 2 kill switches to get it going.. parked in a garage with a big **** off padlock.. with a sensor light with one of those sirens you can screw into them.. i can sleep at night... Some original photos have not been recovered yet.
