Yeah a manual box is the way to go for a street cruiser. In the early stage's, they're quicker also . Once people start making power & get serious, that's when they tend to switch over to a tough auto tran's.

Ive had both..........I love cruising in my manual, and i drive her a lot........If most of your driving is done down the strip, and you have a paddock full of ponies under the bonnet, go for a tricked up auto......

Man once u have an auto with a large histall u will never go back. I had a 3500 stall and it was mad. Would turn tyres in the dry at 100kph easy

So if u are going to get the same fun out of a man and auto but an auto is so much quicker, wouldn't u get the auto

only quicker through gear changes cos there is no room for driver error..... a manual guves you more of a feel for the power when cornering........and helps you slow down........if auto was that quick all round Mark Skaife would be racing one, it just depends on what you want to use your car for.........a quick car with a high stallie would suck driving it to work every day, but would do good times on the track(provided it had the rest of the package). But it mainly comes down to personal taste.........go and test drive a few in the paper to decide...

Man VL's arn't made for flying around corners, So u say why does skaife have a manual, Then why dosn't Victor Bray have a manual, Plus if u put to much power through the manuals they don't last. Go for a trimatic. I drove my car every day everywhere. I think some people don't no wot driving a car with a stall is like. When u boot it there awsome but when u are just cruzing or in traffic there not much different to a normal auto. All u need as a large trans cooler. If u get a manual now 6 months down the track when u won't to go faster, Plus how streetable is a button clutch on the street. Cos if u don't like replacing clutchs all the time u will have to put a button clutch in.

yea can be funny going from manual to auto tho, say u want to slide out a bit around a corner, and auto goes down a gear when u put ur foot down. full boost... like when ur not expecting it and end up losing it into a post or some **** =P

yeh i agree with bozza17, but then u get auto's with full manual valve bodies, high stall and shift kit and its like a manual pretty much down to the gearing and everything without a clutch... victor bray races the strip compared to a circuit, that'd be y one is auto and one is manual... personally i love drivin a manual, reason being i don't go to a strip very often at all... each to their own, i'd rather have a clutch then a high stall.. and i've experienced both Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

JetVLTurbo, have you ever driven a decent manual or driven a vl 5 puck brass button clutch for a week lets say? Or are you one of those people who relay what people say, yet dont really know for yourself how the particular item is from experience. 5 puck brass button with 3000lb pressure plate.... farking as streetable as any other clutch ive driven.... just needs some reves when doing things like parking, but normal taking off, easy as piss, just like driving a new clutch every time. I drive with my button clutch everyday, and love it. Its a little harsher on the drive line and diff, but they are getting old anyway, so its the wear and tear that your feeling. If you match your clutch well enough, you dont need to replace them. This has been coverd heaps of times, do a search zedenko.... sounds like your confused in what you want, (both debt wise and car wise) my advice is you get a pen and paper and write down what you want in each secanario, then work towards the most logical/affordable option. For the record, i like to have as much control of my car as i can. Autos dont cut it for me, even with a manual valve body and the works. Call me old fashioned, but i like my clutch pumping and short shifting + you get the respect you deserve. JETPWN runs 11.93 on stock computer, in a manual mx7 box. probably could run a 10 with an auto, but every wog and his dog can do that. A BT1 has run a 10 in a manual though, ages ago, and EVLCOP ran an 11.3. JetVLTurbo, if you want to reply to my topic, PM me as this thread is locked due to repetition.

one question, there are two vl's one manual and one auto (both turbo) straight from the factory (and before someone says they need to be run in, lets just say they have been ok) if the auto can go to 70-80km/h in first and the manual can only go to 50km/h in first then wouldn't the auto beat the manual, cos the manual has to change which takes time by the driver(clutch, shift, let out clutch), whereas the auto changes pretty much instantly. Or does the manual get a better take off because of the direct linkage from the clutch, whereas the auto has to build up pressure to allow the converter to match the flywheel or something. also with stall converters don't they require the brake pedal to be applied so the revs can rise, wouldn't this wear out the pads, as the auto is trying to turn the wheels, and when the right stall is engaged wouldn't the engine just bog down and lose all the revs anyway, unless of course the traction is lost. but i don't really have any experience with stall converters so i don't know.

Gotta love the manuals. But if I was drag racing I would get a tricked up auto cause I wouldnt want to change gears at 200km/h. But I guess a drag racing manual box would still hammer pretty hard. But comparing a normal auto to a normal manual is a different story. I know manuals arent the best at taking off (Unless you do it perfectly) Autos are better for a hard launch but a manual would catch it no problem in lets say 2nd or 3rd gear.I know this for a fact cause whenever take off at the lights slowly and change it to 2nd gear and boot it I can catch most cars that are like 3 car lengths ahead. I guess thats why ricers always want to drag VL owners because they think its Auto(Even though most are). Some original photos have not been recovered yet.
