My almost brand new vlt clutch is slipping with 11 psi and a cooler... any suggestions as to what to upgrade to? I don't really like the idea of a button in a daily driver....
cheers
Get a heavy duty pressure plate, it also depends on how it is driven, if you slip the pedal a lot an let the heat get in to the clutch it will slip.....It should handle 11psi with a cooler, but if your rear engine seals are leaking it will definately slip.
I have a heavy duty extreme pressure plate with as far as I know a standard centre and it hasn't slipped once with 12-13psi, cooler and exhaust. I have run it down the strip heaps of times and never had any trouble with it.
after talking to a centreforce rep dude he said that the clutches are no good on hi-psi intercooled turbos. he said 15psi max without a cooler and after this he reckons it will die, and if you put a cooler in there - well i'm sure you've felt the power increase.... he said it's the way the turbo's lag for a bit, then all of a sudden boost hits and it takes off so hard that kills them.
I got mine rebuilt by a guy in WA, cost me $330, was absolutley awesome, 2200lbs clamping pressure, organic clutch plate, altered pivot point for lighter pedal, was great!
ok, i'll see if i can get a centreforce clutch plate with a better pressure plate. That should come out around $600 ish i reckon... sounds alright to me
Some original photos have not been recovered yet.
they can modify the pivot point onyour pressure plate to give more clamping force and better pedal feel , works a treat. With a good organic plate you shouldnt have too many dramas.
Got almost hte same combo as Jet-6, the damn best clutch for a VL turbo, with cooler etc.
The centreforce clutch is a PBR 5puck brass button clutch, dont be fooled.
Great clutches, very streetable and cheap too. Part numbers and clutch talk was done ages ago on this, do a search.
Those that say you cant street a 5 puck semi sprung brass button clutch (centreforce type) are wankers who have either not driven one long enough to get the right feel (very easy to do) or people that cant drive manual for ****.
I can change gears in my 5spd turbo as if it was an auto, with no clunks or jerks with the brass button clutch.
