Hey, after reading a discussion on another forum, just after your views on this. I already know most of the results are going to be rather bias due to the discussion forum that this is What is the better car, the VL or the XF. What goes better? Have any of you had 'runs' against the XF? Another point that came up, is the VL apparently killed holden, and the VN was what saved them... This amonst other things, like the XF being 0.19 seconds quicker down the 1/4 (considering it has 6.3% more weight, but 36.6% more engine capacity!!) makes the VL the ****iest holden ever built according to one person. Has any one had any experiences with the VL and XF? On another note..would you call a facotry fitted turbo (like the VLT) a modified engine cus it has a turbo? Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

I have never seen an XF (mainly because of all the smoke coming out of it  but I think I would beat one) and I wouldn't call it modified if it's factory Even if they are faster, they are uglier, so it cancels out Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

i thought VN's were the ****test V6's ever coz it was Holdens first etc i thought it was the VL that saved Holden. They had a new model and didnt no what engine they could put in it so they got a Nissan one? If VL's crap there wouldnt be this forum or calaisturbo...havent seen an XF site before...not that id look though. Apparently they had 120kw @ 4000 rpm, but hey they didnt make a turbo and they look like ****. "It didn't seem to have much grunt" http://members.optusnet.com.au/~fragglerock/falcon_xf.htm

wtf? what a bloody joke? the vl was a downfall for holden coz holdens are **** and holdens make all their money off repairs. well the nissan was bulletproof - and that was their problem.

Hmmm i think this is abit of a joke if an XF is better then what a VL is why dont you buy one?? i would like to see you blow heads left right and center coz thats what they use to do... VN never saved holden at all the reason why the VL has an RB30 in is coz they need a motor and had nothing after the VK so they got the RB30 motor off nissan and dropped it in and hoped for the best and why is it that VL's where the best saleing car in australia??? The VN has a V8 Buick motor with 2 cylinder's cut off it...

no the motor in the VN's was not orriginally a V8 and they are about as tuff as a non turbo RB30 in terms of reliability. Someone i who used to have an XF, slowest piece of crap i have been in.

i owned an "S Pac" XF wagon as my first car ops: (looks for cover and hides) and it was tha biggest slug, rust bucket lump of **** ever.... now i got a VL and its a lot better looking for one, a lot cheaper to run and a lot bloddy quicker sure XF's may have been quicker than the VL's wen they were brand new (im not convinced but anyways) but once the XF hit 10 years old EVERYTHING started playing up with em..... heads, tonnes of rust etc etc. As far as im concerned all XF's are bloddy lemons, as the price for one in the paper these days inducates compared with the VL's Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

This is a joke. My VL NA keeps up with AU Falcons. I've never raced an xf but have been even with an AU and beaten EAs and EBs. BA made my car look like it was standing still. Welcome back Ford, where have you been?????

Looking at the figures, it seems the XF was actually quicker back in 1986 than a VL, but the vl has aged better, and hasn't lost as much power as the XF over the years. I had a laugh when it was stated the VL killed holden. The vl is one of the best holdens made, because of the RB30 Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

so was the VL the downfall or the best best thing? i think it is in the holden book i got them to mail me about the RB30 coz they couldnt find an engine. i heard most V6 VN's were ****ed around 170 - 200 k's

I have to agree with Gus on this one,I have a VL,my brother has a VN and my parents have a VX Commodore, the V6 is as tough as a Nissan RB30 and also came out in turbo form in the states, these motors I have heard have been still going with 700,000 kms on them, then going for another 300,000 kms after that. My VL motor has done 450,000 kms but my brothers VN had done 500,000 kms,the motor was rebuilt at 150,000 kms (was a rough job) as the oil wasn't being changed before we got the car,we put another 350,000 kms on top of that but some damage had been done to the cam lobes, etc due to a lack of proper lubrication but the engine still went for ages. Admittantly the achilles heel of the V6 is its timing chain so when we overhauled the motor we fitted another cam and a Crow roller chain into it. My opinion on the Nissan stuff is I think in terms of what you pay for it they can be overrated as you could get another brand of car, motor, etc these days which is just as good or a little better but you will pay less for it. I know in my VL I have always had trouble with fuel injectors and have been through an airflow meter in both VL's I have had whereas the VN has only had 1 injector changed in its life but tracing down a decent set is near impossible for a VL as they are stuffed even from a wrecker most of the time,a new set cost $1800 retail but Nissan can get stuffed if they are going to charge that much when an aftermarket set can be bought for $700 for a turbo, none are made aftermarket for the atmo. I just hope the R33 setup I am yet to fit is a lot better than the old RB30 setup. As for an XF being quicker,if it was fuel injected I don't know, but a carby model, you have to be joking,I mean I have driven an XF ute and an 89 model Corolla and the Corolla was far more zippy and responsive than the Ford slug.

My N/A VL has ****ed most falcons ('cept the v8's, they're nasty when they get going) damn near every time at the lights. Nothing special done to my car 'cept an HKS air filter, rear muffler removed, and thats about it. No idea how much power I've got, but when I look at an EF falcon with 160,000km on the clock with a NASTY engine knock, and look at my sweeeeeet VL with 400,000km+, well, I know which is the better car Some original photos have not been recovered yet.
