Anyone know of a good company in Melbourne that does a good job or rebuilding MX-7 VL turbo gearboxes to withstand drag racing?
I want the gearbox as tough as I can get it, their worth too much secondhand$2500 at wreckors if I blow one
You cant really rebuild a manual to be strong to withstand racing. I mean, you could probably get the gears shotpeaned or something, but your best bet is to scrap it and go an auto, which will last a lot longer, and will be cheaper in the long run

hmmm MX-7 gear boxes are sh*t house ive been through 3 of em (1 i had rebuilt then next time i killed it so bad it couldnt even be rebuilt) and this time well i dont know what to do its still driving at the moment just without 2nd and 4th lol im thinking getting a supra TT box or something but they arent something u find at every corner shop but as far as im concerned nissan sure build nice motors but sh*t gear boxes (if only nissan and toyota were to merge ahh the possiblities) but yeah ive kill 3 boxes an never once have i killed a diff? beats me
i dunno something to do with compression locks, short shifting, sychro speed, heat, and changing on the real red line (as in not the fake orange one) dropping to 2nd at 90 to throw it round a corner and generally being a hard arse lol meh they dont like to be shifted into forth over 165 ne ways slack boxes plus i want another gear like **** off first ration and give me something halfway between 1st and 2nd that'd be heaps better
probly but seems i dont have a licence any more i think i have some time to sit back and reflect on some of my past actions (licenced for 7 months then they take it off me for 2 year hows that fair) so keep an eye out in the for sale section for a VL SL 5 speed turbo wagon blue
2500??? ive been seeing MX7's for 1500-1600 and ive been skitzing!!!
its ridiculous. If i blew one id see into buying an R33 GTS-t box. They'd be just as strong but had less k's done on them at least. Dont quote me though.
Gerbs - Do a search. The GTS-T 5spd is the same as a n/a VL 5 spd. The MX7 turbo box is a lot stronger, the R33-34 GTST 5 spd's are stronger again. The R33 %spd is a GTR box without the forward transfer case.
Once my car is back this soming week I will be driving a R33 GTST box in my VLT. Cant friggen wait.
