Heya Fellas
Monday mornin, on my way to work, i was pickin up a mate, as it was my drive to work for the week, and since then the car wont start... Got me to his place fine, engine will still turn, but wont fire over.
I've had alook at a lotta crap durin the week, and just had an auto sparky over the other day. He narrowd it down to the injectors are not injecting fuel (bloody handy), but the car is still firing and workin in every other way. He said the dizzy wasnt sending a signal out to the injectors to go and gimme fuel, so i just got another dizy, out of another VLt my ol boy has around for wreckin', and still didnt work, same prob...
So now im outta ideas, tomorrow im tryin another alternator in it, after that, if it dun work, mechanic can fix the ****ing car.
Stuff like this only happans, JUST, as your about to go on holidays

I'm sorry if that sparky is a good mate, but have you checked if your getting a good spark? I don't trust sparkies... also, check all your fuses, esp fuel pump. might also want to try and get a computer to test if that's the prob, but if you've got a na make sure you don't use the turbo comp, I belive that it won't fire the NA injectors as they work on a different pulse... Why do you think that it's alternator? good luck.

try changing ur coil, mine was turning over the other day but just woodnt fire. so check to see if u hav spark urself for ur own piece of mind and then change the coil if u have none OR little

once i had the same problem and i eventually found that it was one of the wires that connects to the external fuel pump had fallen off, i reconnected it and the car ran fine
maybe give that a look

are the crank angle sensors the same ??
sounds like the common problem every VL owner goes through at least once, sounds exactly like mt problem.
anyway man, can you hear your fuel pump priming the system when u turn the key to on..(listen under you rear right wheel)

Ok Here's the run down
*Car fire's fine (ive tested that several times)
*All fuses are good (me n my bro even went over em with a multimeater... same with the relays)
*fuel pump works (ya can hear it, and yes, it also does have fuel pressure)
*it is turbo (im aware of most differences, lol)
*bit dipsy bout crank angle senser (the whole crank angle sensor assembly was replaced in 2001, prior me buyin the car) however, the sparkey traced it to the c.a.s. so i got another one (new) tryed it, no luck
If the can is left for say half hour or more, u go to start it, and the engine runs for bout a second, the dies shortly after. The sparky i had doin it, i trust, he's been a mate of my ol boy for years, and he is one of the best sparkeys around the town i live in.
when u earth a injecter (eg, usin ya multimeter, , one end in the injector, and tap the negative side of the battery) u hear the injector, obviously, injecting. when u do that, start the car, and it will start, but will only be goin off 1 cyl, due to only 1 gettin fuel in (at random times i might add)
so wat ever the problem is, its pissin me off!
as for the alternator... might not b any wrong with it, but my ol boy has a new one just lyin round in his workshop i can try.
Computer test, ill c if anywhere round where i live does do tests. if it is the computer, ill most deffinantly buy an after market one... wat would u's recommend? but leave that to another topic, 1st, fet my freekin car goin
cheer's for ya help so far!

you have checked all spark plugs? i had a problem like this, changed plugs over and all was solved give it a shot, make sure u use NGK plugs

plugs are still new, only put in a month ago, ive already checked em, usin bosh platniums givin em a try.
the car was runnin absolutly beautiful... not a nock, oil leak, miss fire, bad fuel economy, the car was in top notch contidtion. ill pull off all the earths tomorrow and give em a clean
oh, and the leads are only new too... in the second the car starts, u can hear, that it is runnin fine, until no fuel is injected

13-06-03, 20:43 GMT+10#10 lol, ok, lets leave the better spark plug argument in another forum, shall we? far as im concerend, the sparkplugs still do fire... is not injecting fuel into the engine, its something b4 the injectors... and im not gonna pull half the manafold apart again, to check me sparkplugs

13-06-03, 22:31 GMT+10#11 This is just a guess, BUT, Just looking through the wiring diagrams for the injectors, they go through a relay called the "reverse polarity relay," and its located along the drivers side guard behind the headlight. There is 3 relays there. The reverse polarity relay is the one closest to the driver. Also, if you've checked that, and its still not working, check the EFI relay (12v 30amp), which is the 2nd relay on the left hand side of the fuse box (assuming the top of the relay is towards the middle of the car), and check the Ignition system ECCS control unit fuse, which is fuse number 10 (15amp - blue fuse)
Whatever the problem is, it is DEFINATLY electrical.
Also, check the coil and the coolant temperature sensor, as wiring off the injectors go through both of them (firstly through the CTS then the coil).
The VL Computer is self diagnostic too, which means you can look at it, and it will tell you what codes that is it logging. To do this, pull off the passenger side kick panel, and you will see the computer. At the front of it is a little adjusting screw. It should have a label on it which tells you which way to turn the screw to put the computer in diagnostic mode. When you do this, it will start flashing two little LED's which are also on the front of the computer. One is red, the other is green. The red light counts the 10's, the green counts the 1's ie. if you get 2 red flashes, then 3 green flashes, it has logged code number 23, so basically, you have to count the flashes to identify what code the computer has logged
Here is what they are:
Code 11: Crank Angle Sensor
Code 12: Air Flow Meter
Code 13: Coolant Temperature Sensor
Code 14: Vehicle Speed Sensor
Code 21: Ignition Signal
Code 23: Throttle Valve Switch
Code 24: Neutral Switch System
Code 31: Air Con Switch
Code 32: Starter Signal
Code 34: Detonation Sensor
Code 44: ECCS System OK - If it doesnt flash that one, you know you have a prob with the ECCS
I'm also not 100% sure if you have to do little tests while the computer is in diagnostic mode to narrow down the problem, so if it flashes every code I've just put on there, let me know, and I'll tell you the test proceedures for each sensor
I know thats pretty technical, but I wrote it as simple as I could
Have fun! Let me know how it goes because I work at Holden, so I have access to all the manufactures books, and all the senior mechanics :b

13-06-03, 22:34 GMT+10#12 Oh, and by the way, Bosch plugs and VL's dont mix very well at all. If you want good plugs, always go NGK, as Bosch foul up very, very quickly

13-06-03, 22:36 GMT+10#13 yeah iwas gonna say try the reverse polarity relay aswell. or outside chance the afm.

13-06-03, 23:58 GMT+10#16 LOL, thanx for all the input fella's
ok, i will check those relays tomorrow, im out at my folks place tonight, as i will be gettin a car trailer from here, and towin my car here (so i have a workshop to work on the car, not handy man tools u buy from kmart for 50c). so since im gonna be waitin for daylight for a while, anyone got the wiring diagram to the vl's? im gonna look, but if ya got one around or know off one, save me some trouble i never thought of gettin a wiring diagram up. on my vh, i kept blown fuses for the headlights, after a while, i got the wiring diagram, and traced it back to the light for the t-bar on the auto, lead for the light in there had fallen and was earing against the car... after i fixed that, no more blown fuse headlights, lol. but anyway...
we've done the whole computer diagnostic, that was what me n my bro 1st did. gimme all the technical terms you want
FINE! since im gettin a complete service on the car in a few weeks b4 i go on holidays, ill switch the NGK on the car... wat you's recommend for the vl turbo?
the AFM is brand new, i changed that 3 weeks ago, cuz i was usin fuel baaad... i thought it was the afm aswell, so i change it to my old one, to see if it was the prob... no go.
n e ways, back on my search for vl stuff

sorry, man. I'm not saying your all bad. I've just had a bad experience with ONE. hehe.
Another thing i just thought of.. is it possible that the fuel pick up is blocked? Getting fuel at startup, but then not able to get enough to run the engine? I don't know about that, I'm guessing now... :P

14-06-03, 09:43 GMT+10#19 Nah bro, i change the filters on this regularly, and only put the good fuel in... plus the injectors are new as of feburary, all 6 of them (not cheap) since i have 4 of them leaking quicker then i can piss, but if no go, ill pull the injectors out, and check em...
well, i just looked at an N/A vl out here, and saw the relays behind the headlight, so now i know wat to look for, ill go home, and check it out!
