Please excuse the pic, but you should get a rough idea of a simple setup for any sedan. Basically the sub box sits under a hole you make in the parcel shelf so the sound from the subs fires striaght into the cars cabin area.
Make the hole in your parcel shelf as big as possible, even drilling a heap of holes in one area, or cutting out several holes with a 50mm-60mm hole saw would do the trick. Then get some grille cloth and make a cover for the holes. It's upto you how much time and effort you want to spend on it, but it works great and can look factory with a bit of effort.
You can also just mount it like any other sub box, as you should be able to hear 2 x 12"s anyway without doing anything.
Parcel shelf Hole in shelf for subs to fire through

dude the best way ive found is either fire em directly into the back aiming towards the rear tail lights or face em up so they face the top of the boot. make sue u make like a nice whole that goes thru ur parcel shelf so the sound can come into ur cAbin easier and not stuff up and rear speaker on ur parcel ie 6x9s i no this as i have killed 4 pairs so far

13-06-03, 17:53 GMT+10#10 Yeah its illegal to cut into the metal that holds the parcel shelf, but it shouldn't really need to be done, most of the Stereo guys I've talked to keep telling me that for a vl, you aim the subs back towards the boot, and have the hole in the wooden part of your parcel shelf, because my subs go better in a ported box, it will be ported directly into my cabin through the parcel shelf.

This is mine bro. I got the box custom made and I got the guy to just sit so that it's facing outwards.
Went to bunnings and got some 18mm MDF and just made up the facia pannel for the subs and the surrounding boards - with trial & error kinda fitting.
And as flesh_tunnels77 said, You'll get much better bass if you face the subs away from the driver.
Jet Pilot - Nice Setup! But what's the go with that thick blue cable sticking out? :?

19-06-03, 15:27 GMT+10#13 gatecrasher that is perfect. how much did it cost to get the box custom made? i have a 15 i want to mount in the same spot, maybe even with space for compartments on either side

20-06-03, 08:17 GMT+10#14 **** man.. I can't remember it was so long ago. $100 - $200? Not too sure. :?
But go the custom box over the pre-fabricated boxes. Just take your sub to any car audio place with the spec sheet, and they should be able to mount it where ever you want!
