I have an answer for someone who had a bee under the bonnet about people comparing these 2 engines together.
I read this Jap imports magazine where they were "comparing" the 2JZGTE in the Toyota Supra to the new 240 kw XR6T motor, saying it was the first "Japanese style built Australian engine",the only similarity between the 2 I think is the fact they both have a turbocharger hanging off the side and 2 camshafts, and that is where the similarities end.
The Japanese apparently love a good high revving engine with a very strong bottom end, square bore or a short stroking engine which can rev up to and past 7000 RPM,also an engine which is good on fuel.
All the Ford motor is basically is an EA block which has been taken out a little to 4 litres and fitted with a twin cam head, which uses a long stroking smaller bore engine which hates revving, combined with the weak bottom end it was mentioned in the Jap imports magazine taking it past its rev limit is risky, the engine is a lot more thirstier than the Toyota engine.
So,how can anyone compare the 2 engines when one is more of a racing engine and one is more suited to towing caravans?
I know ther were people bagging the Holden V6 saying it is an ancient engine but believe it or not it would make a better racing engine with its bore & stroke,it = 96.52 mmx 86.36mm whilst the Ford has 92mm for the bore and 96mm for the stroke.
mate, the holden V6 is a piece of sh.it - an EB 6cylinder 5psd will beat todays VY V6. i don't understand, if the V6 is as good as you imply.
as for the supra engine and xr6t engine, well they aren't meant to be compared.
for example, you don't compare a commodore calais with a falcon GLi do you? but when you do, you will find the calais is better, but that's because it's meant to be.
if Ford wanted to make an engine such as the 2JZGTE, they could. they have the resources, expertise and the money.
351 - I like my fords, own one, but you have to realise, FORD ARE NOT GOD. Get over it.

There is way more to it than that, you are ignoring almost 15 years of development. As to my undertsanding ford sixes have a strong bottom end.
Japanese style engine, WTF is that? They didn't invent twin cams, turbos, nothing. Americans and Europeans did. All major internal combustion engine developments worthy of mention were made outside of Japan.
the new XR6 motor is similar in design to the old one but is completely new.
it may not rev as high as 'jap' engines but that is the way it was designed, it was was designed for bottom end power and that is what it achieves very well
cant argue with 450Nm from 2000 to 4500
The australian market and japanese market are two totally different things so these motors were designed to suit different needs. as turbo luke said the ford motor is designed with low down poer and torque - not total power sheer speed like the rb26. the noly thing that makes the motors similar is the fact there
1. sixes
2. turbo
3. have twin cam heads.
It depends to your personal taste (like pretty much any time you compare something) on which one is the best for your needs.
351 dont get me wrong but fords suk ass.........im not just saying this because i drive a holden and i think i know everything, but i actually have the experience to back up my statement.....i have driven many fords such as EA (ended up in the wreakers).......EB xr6 (rebuilt twice and wrecked due to its awesome 6 cylinder engine) and also the good 'ol' xr6 turbo (with 500km's on the clock it was being towed back to lane ford for repairs)............as for ur compared examples how bout u start by not even thinking of comparing a ford to a holden its a battle the ugly blue oval just cant win!..........as for japan motors the only one i would touch is the RB30 an awesome engine suited to an awesome commodore.
ok for a fact being towed back at 500k's well thats just plain obvious why
-most probably thrashed it from the time it made it out of factory and incorrect run in procedure.
i think its great that for actually tried something different
i would honestly consider doing it to my ea falcon once it has been fixed from where it is maybe a new comp and electrics first as its only just clocked up 120000 so it shant need a rebuild to add a turbo

quick6 - EA was the worest Falcon built, no doubt about it. all the same, the holden fully imported buick V6 at the time was no better either.
you have some balls to mention towing back a XR6T after 500km's when the trusty old GEN III has been on today tonight more then twice because they're such a joke. how about the $100,000 GTS that has done 30,000km's with 3 replacement GEN III's, 5 rebuilds and over a dozen other problems. justify that?
Actually, the term 'Lemon' and 'GEN III' are very closely tied together now days.
It's quite obvious that absolutely love the new Ford range, but you just can't admit it - and it frustrates you something chronic.
You don't happen to drive a VN V6 do you? ha
*sigh* Ford vs holden fights :?
They sound so much like the arguments we used to hear back in primary school!!!
Give me a better car over a worse one any day. I'm a Ford guy, I think most commodores blow goats really (pre vs v6's are rattley harsh engines, gen III burns oil), But i also know a good car when there is one.. even if it wears a holden badge..hence me owning a VL, and not an XF or EA. The xf didn't appeal to me, drank more fuel etc etc. and the EA is a lemon.
It ****s me to hear people say "Holden are ****" "Fords are gay" etc. Both car companies mad good cars, and **** cars. The HT etc Monaros are horn, and the WB statesman very posh indeed. As were the Xr-XC falcons (gotta love the big square XY's and the XB Hard tops) an the BA range are sweet as.

The voice of reason at last is heard! Grow up people.
351, quick6, the dead horse just rang. He wants you to stop whipping him.
Some original photos have not been recovered yet.
lol......ahhh the ford vs holden passion lives on............its a battle i guess neither can win............oh and for the record no i dont drive a vn v6 with a big SHIFT sticker on the back and my arm hanging out the window with the stereo worth more than the car pumping tunes............
As if you dont have your arm out the window! Its the only other way your bunkys front door stay closed, bahaha
Enough of the bull****e insults ya da ya...
Two different engines, Two different uses. I've said it once, I've said it a few more times, there not the same, spread the word, inform the retards of why they should get a life and stop dreaming about cars!
All cars are made different, yet they are all compared to one another, its like a rhino shagging a zebra, its just not on...
moving along... 8)
VN0747 easy on the lame remarks, that was really uncalled for.
The forum is for the japanese engined vl turbo, yet people can talk about other cars and engines.
If you feel the need to scream because people dont have a one track mind when it comes to cars, THIS forum isnt the place, go find a dark soundproof room.
HAHAHAhaha...
So if you such a die hard Holden fan Mr VN0747, then why do you like or care about the RB26DETT? I mean theres nothing holden about it, it shares no similarities to any holden product, and the only similarity Nissan and Holden have is one single engine (in different guises), that being the RB30.
Personal insults and general abuse can get one banned from this site, so i will not remark on your comments...
Interestingly enough this section of the boards is called "Other Model Cars", not "Other Model Holdens".
I suggest everyone take some chill pills and settle down in this topic, or it will find its way to the locked list, or even to the Deleted bin.
use are right im sorry, i keep forgeting were not on the fullboost forums anymore lol... fords a **** ive worked on enough of them to know, some holdnes arnt any better but still holdens look heaps better.. anyways ill stay out of this thread
Opinions are like arseholes, everyones got one.
You Love Holden, I Prefer Ford. Note that word 'Prefer', it means I would rather a Ford over a Holden, but it does not mean that I dont like Holden. I give respect to any nice vehicle, not because it looks sexy, but because it is built properly, it is used to its intended build purposes, and it succeds with flying colours.
Just out of interest which Fords have you worked on? Let me guess, probably XF and EA's, maybe ventured to a few EF/L's and possibly an AU here or there. Ok everyone knows EAs are ****, so theres not need to point that out, but the EF/L + AU are one of the toughest packages you can buy on the cheap. I'd like to see an equivalent VS + VT last as long or longer than the Ford. Its not going to happen unless you garage the Holden and leave it there forever, only then will the running parts last longer than the Fords...
Thats not what this thread is about though. Its about a Japanese 'race car' engine being compared with an Australian 'work horse' engine.
Last whinge, Why do you need to remeber that your not on fullboost anymore? Most if not all the users and civilised in knowing that others enjoy different makes and models, and vehicles deserve merrits on what they achieve. Sure we like to piss take on one another on the odd occassion, but really why are there individuals out there that are so narrow minded that all they can love is one brand.
Maybe you need to visit a mature forum like LS1.com and/or Fordforums.com and see that even though each forum is dedicated to a particular brand, they both live in harmony, discuss issue in a civilised manor about the other companys, and generally have a fantastic time.
You'll learn in time.
Nighty night...
The VY SS looks crazy.
But I just can't justify why you'd buy a VY SS Ute over a BA XR8 Ute.
Although you can argue what looks better, the BA Ute has more features, and most importantly of all - can carry a much heavier load. Which is essentially why you buy a Ute (usually!).
... Apparently the BA XR8 Boss Bonnet costs something like $4,000 because of the buldge, which is a long process to make.
jeez, I'd hate to ram up the ass of a VY SS just before you go to over take - $4,000 for a bonet, WOW!
Maybe it costs so much so that people with XT Falcons, and XR6's dont slap one on their own car? Bit of a presitge price tag.
But maybe to the owners of the XR8's and GTs will get it cheaper if there ever came a time the bonnet needed replacing.
Who knows...
