I started my car up this morning as i normally do, started first go reached proper idle. Then after it idled for like 5 seconds the revs die down from like 800 down to like 600 and car started jumping like it was about to stall. Exhaust note sounded terrible, kept it in the driveway i thought it was gunna stall so i reved it about 1K and kept it there for about 1 minute. Then let it lower down to normal but it kept it dying until the point where it really felt like it was gunna stall. I got outta the car and raised the idle got it idling around 900ish, but still would drop and feel like it would stall. Drove for around 5 mins and waited outside someones house for around 2mins. In that time the idle dropped to the point was going to stall but didn't stall. Drove for about another 5mins was feeling like it was about to stall every time i comed to a stop. After about 20mins of the car being started the problem went away, i left it idling in tafe carpark and it held the idle how it should have didn't drop. I still haven't checked it to see if it will do it again or not. But any idea's wat could have made the car show those problems ? Could anything been leaking overnite and when i start it up in the morning it has to burn it off first b4 it starts working properly. Like water or sumthing getting burnt off ? Thanks Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

Actually sounds similar to a problem I am having, cept mine has actually stalled on a couple of occasions. Car has restarted fine though, then stalled again after a few seconds, so I had to give her some revs to keep it running. The idle is really rough when its cold, but then runs like clockwork once she is warmed up.

Sounds like an AFM problem, thats where id be starting first. Maybe check fuel pressure also.

Could be your air reg. Try pinching the pipe from the reg to the plenum when cold starting, should drop revs if it's working. Seems to be a common fault on vl's.

Its sounds like exactly what i had happening with my old NA Guys... I can tell you it won't be an AFM problem, that was replaced 3 times, the third time with a branf new one. It won't be a fuel pump, they were both replaced with new ones, and it won't be a CAS, once again, replaced with a brand new one. My mechanic and i found that the replacement of the computer solved it for about a week. Sorry i can't be of more help, i cracked the ****s with the car and sold it before an answer could be found. I had this problem for well over 8 months.

Yeah just keep an eye on it... the problem i had was intermitant... some days it would run fine, other times it'd stall 2 or 3 times on me and feel like a worked 454 big block with an idle as lumpy as porridge.

This is true Brett, but what i was doing was explaining that i had exactly the same problem and those items weren't the cause. I didn't say he shouldn't still check them BUT maybe also look in other areas. Last time i checked this board was about offerening personal experiences and suggestions... i just did that so back the f**k off.

Ha yeah whatever.... all that needs to be said has been said. Troy, just when it happens, take a mental note of what you were doing at the time.. (e.g. air con on, at idle, low fuel)

Well it can't be the exhuast on my car, that was totally replaced only 2 months ago, and the problem was there well before that.

Hey guys mine has statrted doing this too. Only does it some days then other days it is fine. Checked fuel flow it is sweet. Thinking wiring or airflow meter as I have solved problen twice by wiggling wires and connections a bit. when it does it, idle drops to about 200rpm then eventually stalls. It also pumps a heap of black and blue smoke out exaust, then give it a rev and its sweet...

hey, my car did the exact same thing, it only stopped when i started putting bp ultimate in my car instead. and as soon as i go back to normal unleaded it will idle like crap, and then stall. so, i just run the car on ultimate instead. dave

Well my cas died on Friday so the car went to the mechanics and they found that the injectors were pretty blocked and that the air flow was set to extreamly rich to compenstate for this, so they cleaned the injectors and reset the air flow and its idleing fine again.

hay I have a simillar problem to mids but mine is hard to start. It will only start if i take the plug out of the air flow meter, once its started I put the plug back in but the car just stalls. Im not sure if this is the airflow meter or something else? if i try to accelarate it struggles and back fires.

its the air flow meter. i had the same problem. wouldnt run with the afm connected, but would go with it disconnected(except if you revved it).get a replacement one and your prob will be fixed.
